This morning God's love was shown to me. I was reminded that the standard Christian perspective is the desire to be grafted to the true vine. Part of our job is to bear fruit. But it came to me that the children of generations of Christians would actually be fruit. It would seem that the scope of human understanding has narrowed the possibilities of the creator. The fruit of fruit would be seeds, not more parts of the same vine that bore them. Like the idea that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. But once ripe it still has to fall if it's not plucked, the detachment is there. In essence the job of fruit is to give way to more plants. Not having just one vine but many interconnected plants.

In our efforts to make Jesus all, have we limited ourselves?

Sorry, but if the whole Earth were to blow up tomorrow and all people destroyed, it wouldn't affect the universe much. There really is no grand plan. The only reason humans are important to us is because we are human. Our "fruit" is only enjoyed by other humans and is only important to other humans (and possible other flora and fauna on this planet).

The only purpose to your life, is that which you give yourself. You develop your own character and other people see you by that character you present.

Religion tends to limit your character. It gives you a spoon-fed worldview and makes you morally lazy. It cautions against thinking for yourself, so your "fruit" becomes rather shallow and flavorless. It becomes just a long list of cliches and doesn't have much real substance.

Instead, we should learn to think for ourselves and continue dialogs on what we, as humans, should do and what our collective purpose should be. I've found that religious people frequently can't carry such a dialog far without just defaulting to "God said so". They have a hard time really discussing why something is good or bad. They just take it as true because they are told so.

In analogy fruit is that which carries the seed, Genesis 1:12 "and trees bearing fruit with seed in them, after their kind; and God saw that it was good." Seed is an analogy in Scripture of the Word of God. What carries the seed in us? our words. That is why God says we will be judged according to our words because they come from our heart and show what is there. Matthew 12:37 "For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned." What we teach is our fruit and is what we will be judged by. When God says 'you will know them by their fruit,' He is asking us to examine what they are teaching, compare it with the Word of God and determine if someone is bearing frui for God or not.
