we called it a "Cannibal Sandwich"..it is ground round (very lean)...raw...spread on a thin slice of dark rye bread, topped with sliced raw onions...and salt and pepper. I remember my mom serving these at Christmas time...and everyone loved them... I havent seen or heard of it in a while. But I loved it!!

It sounds very similar to what we ate as kids. (and we still do as adults)
Coming from a German background, this was very common for us to eat at our home.
Only we never really had a name for it, we just call it Steak Tartar.
It's raw, fine ground steak meat and it was always served to us on a slice of German Bread and you could add some salt/pepper and very finely chopped onion and it was great!
I still love it to this day.

EEWWW......this is raw?....I can remember my grandfather putting ground beef/round in a bowl and sprinkling it with salt and pepper and eating it......Sorry, I've never heard of this though. Maybe you could start it as a tradition for your family again?.....Aren't old memories the best !!!!!

Yes. Only I like the beef raw without the bread or onions. I eat it while I'm making hamburger patties.

And you DON'T get Mad Cow Disease from eating raw beef. (You can get E-Coli from it, but that's mostly hype- it's very rare.)
