I live in India and I am working for a company which provides online tuitions to students of USA.

Company is planning to start Online Teaching of Indian Languages. We are targeting Non Resident Indians who are poor in their native language. For example, if an Indian guy is born and bought up in USA and he is not so PRO in Hindi language, he can book sessions with us and learn Hindi. In this new concept, people will book sessions in advance, qualified tutors will teach them language by using Skype and Web Camera (Audio+Video).

I want your opinion. Do you think people will pay to learn their native language? During my trips in various countries I have noticed that so many people want their kids to learn native language but will they like to pay to learn it?

Serious replies please……

Its not a good proposal being a business man myself. Who the hell does the information collecting at your company. First your targeting one of the most diverse groups in America who are always under fire from politicians for casinos, tobacco laws and etc. Second they are NOT going to pay to learn their native language when nobody in america uses it anymore including them. Its almost a dead language. Honestly American Indians, Hindus, etc. Are some of the most gracious people I have ever met considering this country slapped them in the face a good twenty million times , figuratively of course, but they still found ways to stick it to us. You may get a certain targeted select group that want to learn again but that is going to be families with steady income, look at the average salary in the united states minimium wage you make twenty thousand a year, and now look at the family sizes per average and capita by state in the U.S. Now look at your business plan out the window. Don't do it. Simple , Dont do it.

You might like to look at the market for tuition in the Irish language in Ireland, the Welsh language in Wales, the Gaelic language in Scotland, the Manx and Cornish languages in England, the Breton language in France and the Basque language in France and Spain. All of these are the languages of dead or moribund cultures. There is a small market for tuition in these languages to preservationists, historians and students of literature. The market for Hindi and regional Indian languages in the US might resemble these, and there is also a need for Indian expatriates to learn a language in order to visit relatives.

There is a small market in the UK for tuition in Urdu and Punjabi for people (e.g. police officers and social workers) who work among immigrants who can't, or won't, speak English.

I suspect someone will be willing to pay for it. Unlike some business ideas, you can provide your service to a small number of people, and make money from it.

Not that this has anything to do with your question, but I did find the post from the person who thought you were Native American rather amusing.

Most of those I have met have children who are proficient in both languages.
