My present coaxial cable is 30 years old(i live in a block of flats)
I have been informed that the cable deteriorates over the years and I wish to know whether the old cable wiil have to be replaced by satellite grade cable??? Thanks FPL

30yrs is old and it may be detiriated but don't let them con you (as they are many) there is no such thing as a didital arial or digital cable - but the salesmen will take every opporunity to tell you otherwise- if it works don't change it.And never believe what they tell you on TV unless you've checked it out independantly.We are Punters and nothing more to the corperate machine except a way of making money.Digital is way over rated and you can't tape on any channel except the one your watching,like sky.So it has it's limitations too.x

If it works OK now, I would leave well alone.

The switch-over to digital does not require new arial or cabling - only your reveiver will need to be changed, either by adding a digital decoder, or by replacing with a digital TV.

You really need new cable, whether for satellite or digital, whether you change over or not! That is some OLD cable you've got yourself! It could be fraying, have water damage, all kinds of stuff!

It will need to be replaced. That's probably RG 50, they now use RG-6 cable, which is more updated and works with the newer signals.
