You are running down a passageway, escaping from a horde of nasty people who will kill you if they catch you. The passage then ends, but there are two doors each with an armed guard in front of it. One door will lead to freedom, the other door will lead to certain death. If you take neither door, the nasty people who are chasing you will catch up and kill you. Overpowering the guards and stealing their weapons to kill the nasty people is NOT an option. Now, you can ask ONE question of EITHER guard to determine which door you should take. However, one of the guards always tells the truth while the other guard always lies. What single question can you ask to either guard to guarantee that you select the correct door?

We seem to have a pretty intelligent bunch of people on line at the moment. I am very impressed.
Johnapdavies (welshman, by any chance??) was the first to give the correct answer. I'll choose his answer as best later on.

You ask either guard which door the other one would tell you to use and then use the other one.

Ask 'What way/door will the other guard tell me leads to freedom?' Then go the opposite way/door of the one he tells you.
Damn johnpdav said it first.
The other 1st three were wrong because:
1st one didn't say door of freedom
2nd and 3rd didn't say use other door
Actually I bet I said it first and he just wrote one letter and edited it.
...
Actually johnpdav is wrong I just realized! 10 points please.
Because....
'What door would the other guard tell me to use?'
'That one'
The answer above is neither a truth or lie. Coz the one that says the truth could hate your guts and the one that lies could like you alot.
Lets say the liar does hate you. LET ME DEMONSTRATE WHY JOHNPDAVIS ANSWER IS WRONG!
you asking (without knowing) the one telling truth
'what door would the other guard tell me to use?'
truth guard 'that one'
say the lying guard hates you he would want you to go to the certain death door but he is a liar so he would say the freedom door. If you followed johnpdavis instructions you you would avoid that door and go to the certain death door. You see. If that didn't make sense then theres my point..to put it simply:
JOHNPDAVIS IS WRONG BECAUSE IF YOU ASKED EITHER GUARD 'WHAT DOOR SHALL I USE' AND THEY SAID DOOR A (OR DOOR B) THAT WOULD NOT BE A TRUTH OR LIE'
this is all assuming you want freedom of course. 10 points please.
Miss tickle is wrong coz you can only ask one question.

You ask one of the guards "which door would the other guard tell me to choose, that would lead me to safety?" whatever answer he gives you, you go the other way.
If guard #1 is the liar and you ask him that he will tell you that guard #2(the one who tells the truth) would choose door A, but b/c he always lies the REAL answer is that guard#2 would really tell u to use door B.
If guard #1 is the one who always tells the truth and you ask him that question, he will tell you that guard B would tell you to use door B. But b/c we know guard #2 lies, that door wouldnt be safe so you would go the other way, door A.
--The others cheated--

Showing the same door, you will ask the guards the same question: where this door leads?
The guard telling the truth, will tell truth and the other guard will tell just the opposite. Decide the correct door and escape.

You ask either guard "Which door would the other guard say was the door to freedom?". If you ask the liar, he will tell you that the deadly door leads to freedom, since he lies about the truth. If you ask the truth-teller, he also will indicate the deadly door, since he tells the truth about a lie. So you go through the opposite door to the one the guard says to use.

If I ask the other guy which door lead to freedom, what will be the answer?
If he is the liar,he'll show you the door that leads to death..Same will be the case if the truth speaker answers this question.
So you just have to take the the other door..that leads to freedom.
