This is a version of what philosophers consider one of the great questions, which is "If God is good, why does evil exist?" The short answer is, if you want people to actually have a choice and not be robots, they must be free to choose between something which is good, and something which is not good, something which is God and something which is not God. Hell is the ultimate example of that dynamic. If on the one hand you have eternity in the presence of God, infinite happiness and joy, what is even a lot of happiness compared to infinite? Not that I am saying hell would be happy, but any number when divided by infinity is zero.

The same reason that bad kids dont get gifts from Santa. Its a very effective tool to control people's actions. By the way hell probably isnt that bad anyway, so far the kill ratio between god and satan is 200 000 : 1, I'd take my chances in hell.

One of the keys to our existance here on Earth was that we accepted our Father in heavens plan, to have free choice and learn what we might on this Earth and return to him someday hopefully. However, "no unclean thing can enter into the kingdom of my father" Jesus said. The only way to be clean is to repent and be baptized by the Holy Ghost. Now as to why there is hell? I believe that hell is there for those who cannot stand to be in heaven. Those people who have sinned so, who have not repented, it would fill them with continous guilt and pain to be in the presence of the Father or the Son or the Holy Spirit. Thus, they cannot enter into heaven, and hell is the only place they can stand, it is full of sins, misery, and pain. But that it was the person's choice in life. However I stress to you, children and those who die without the chance of obtaining the truth of God are held blameless. Scripture says "And behold, when that time cometh, none shall be found ablameless before God, except it be little children, only through repentance and faith on the name of the Lord God Omnipotent." scripture also states "Thus came the avoice of the Lord unto me, saying: All who have died bwithout a knowledge of this gospel, who would have received it if they had been permitted to tarry, shall be cheirs of the celestial kingdom of God; "

God didn't create hell for man but for satan and his demons. God had to create it because God is light and in Him is no darkness. Therefore he had to cast the darkness far away from his presence. And, because God IS loving, he didn't create humans to be robots that MUST serve him. Instead we have a choice. We can choose to serve God and live with Him in heaven or choose to serve satan and live with him in hell. The fact that God would even allow us the choice to go to heaven is enough for me to believe he is a loving God.

Let me ask you a question: Do you honestly believe that all those tyrants who killed millions will never be held responsible for their crimes? Do you honestly believe that child abusers and drug dealers and those who oppress the poor, and all the others who bring misery and death to our world, will never be held responsible for their crimes? I hope not.
And would it shock you to discover that no one in the Bible spoke more about judgment and Hell than Jesus? I suspect it would—and yet it's true. He warned that someday God will say to all those who have ignored His laws, "Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels" (Matthew 25:41). God is holy and just, and someday all the evils and injustices of this world will be judged.
But this isn't the whole story! God also is kind and merciful and loving (as you say), and He yearns for us to know Him and be with Him in heaven forever. That is why He sent His only Son into the world. Jesus Christ came for one reason: to save us from our sins. He did this by taking upon Himself the judgment and punishment we deserve.
The Bible says, "God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). Don't turn your back on Christ, but by faith open your heart to Him and trust Him alone for your salvation.

i think there is hell, because he wants us to learn and He loves us so much that He gave us a freewill or choice. He wants to know, if we also want or choose to love HIM. GOD bless us with everything, and its up to us if we choose hell or heaven. if there is no hell, how can we choose at something? ..or else we'll just be like robots or remote controlled dolls who just obey and do what his master wants them to do. But GOD did not chained us, HE gives us the chance for us to learn how to love others and HIM. GOD is Love, and apart from him is nothing. so.. there's hell for a choice ! =).. and there is heaven too !

God loves His own who come to Him, but hates the workers of iniquity. Psalm 5:4 "For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness; No evil dwells with You. 5 The boastful shall not stand before Your eyes; You hate all who do iniquity. 6 You destroy those who speak falsehood; The LORD abhors the man of bloodshed and deceit."
Hell is for those whom God hates, Heaven is for those who God loves.

Discipline does not equate to not loving....there are clear choices stated,,,and the path to avoid hell clear....so the choice is there and there has to be consequences to actions...if you are a parent (if to young now some day you will get it) or a person in charge you will realize how important consequences are....on the down side some people no matter what their age never get that...

There is a Hell because when Lucifer, a.k.a. Satan was cast out of Heaven, Hell was then created. The demons are also known as 'fallen angels', who chose to follow Satan. The people who do NOT accept God go to Hell because of their choice. You see, if you choose to accept God, you go to Heaven. God wants us all to go to Heaven, so God gives us free choice, so if you choose NOT to accept Him, you choose Hell for yourself.
