How old are you? You aren't going to get any cheap rates if you are a teenager or early 20's! You also hit it right on the nail head that you live in Atlanta which is a large metropolitian area and rates are much higher do to more accidents and probability for more accidents! Then your state government also plays a role in what they allow carriers to charge its citizens. You can try shopping but Progressive offers one of the lowest rates in the country. I pay $209 every six months for 100/300 coverage. I have a safe driving record with no "at fault" accidents and no tickets! Either of the two will drastically increase your rates with surcharges the carriers apply!

I would call Allstate. I have top of the line, comprehensive coverage on a convertible (not the best car for good insurance rates) and I pay about $100 every 5 months and nothing on the sixth. When I had a Jetta, it was about $70.
Now, I have no accidents and no tickets. My best driver status definitely helps my rates. I also live in a gated community so safty helps my rates. But I do live in a city so I think some of those things get cancelled out.

often times there are discounts that you can qualify for that will reduce the amount you pay but aren't well known.
For example, through statefarm it turns out the "good student" discount can be applied even after graduation - all the way until you turn 25... that saved me about $100 every 6 months. Also, they had a drive safe program where you watch a video tape and keep a driver's log for a week or something and mail it back to them. That also saved me about $100 ever 6 months. You can also get discounts for things like having multiple cars insured with them or possible having homeowners insurance or renters insurance through them.
Your coverage is really high...is your driving record not so clean?
As a male, under 25 with a 2002 Acura RSX type-S I only paid $1200 a year for comprehensive coverage.
If your driving record is clean, shop around - you can definately find something cheaper.

There are many things you can do to lower your rate. Here are 9 tips to save money on car insurance. Following these tips can save drivers hundreds of dollars per year.
1) Get married and get older.
2) Take a defensive driving course.
3) Ask about membership discounts, because they're not always going to volunteer it. (Membership discounts are great discounts for having more than 1 policy with the company. For instance if there are two car policies in the household then you both will get 15% off of your rates in many cases!)
4) Install a car alarm.
5) Pay six months in full, twice a year, rather than financing the premiums.
6) Buy a car with safety features such as anti-lock brake system, alarm and air bags.
7) Comparison shop - Try a quoting service that will allow you to get multiple quotes at once such as InsureMe - http://www.insureme.com/landing.aspx?Refby=614498&Type=auto
8) Move to a "better" ZIP code. Areas where there are more uninsured motorists and more wrecks get slapped with higher rates.
9) Keep your driving record clean so your insurance company is never tempted to raise your rates.
Take Care!

If you can find a Farm Bureau or an Equity or Safe Auto, they're really cheap. We pay $46 a month for two vehicles, we've got clean ticket history now, and a married discount, but before it was like $71 for both cars with two speeking tickets on my husband and one accident (my fault) on me.

on liabiltiy insurance, your age, your sex, and your driving record will make a big differnece ( along with your zip code)
So yes it costs more in down town Atlatna due to the fact there are 100's of wrecks there every day.
If you are under 21 and have a ticket or two it all adds up more money
