I believe that the idea of God came from us (men and women) who experienced and witnessed His existence.

Without the experience of God in our lives..the expressions of or belief or idea of Him ...will never become into reality.

The "idea" of God has been present in every human society, and reflects the fact that God is a logical necessity. However the identity of God could never have been determined from logic. God himself had to directly reveal Himself to humanity in order for us to know Who He is.

Parents.

Imagine the scenario: A person is born. They are raised by their parents... or more typically in ancient times their mother. Their father would typically be working... while also being the head of the family.... a rather distant but ultimately benevolant figure that they were required to look up to.

Now eventually that person is thrown, ignorant, out into the world.... and left to cope on their own. They have grown used to having a benevolant, parental authority figure for their entire childhood and cannot drop it.....
Hence they feel the need to believe in an imaginary, idealistic, "ultimate" father-figure for their own peace of mind.

It shows quite clearly in all devout christians... They're just like insecure children on the inside... unable to cope without some imaginary parental figure watching over them. They're afraid of being alone... terrified.... That is why it is so difficult to make them see reason. The only way to get it through their thick skulls is firstly to actually acknowledge their parental figure exists (and thats a tough one to do when it goes against all reason), and secondarily to show them that their parental figure is neglectful and abusive. Only when they see that will they begin to let go of that childishness and truly mature into understanding.

Of course.... thats only the first stage. Abandonment of childish notions of gods is the beginning. The next steps involve abandonment of the flawed concepts of purpose and reality itself... Our very lives are nothing but a mesh of deception afterall...

Ex nihilo... ad nihilo.

The idea of God comes from the prompting of the Holy Spirit to help us with our soul growth. The innate spark of divinity within us keeps us searching to find our spiritual path.
This has resulted in different religions and concepts from people all over the world.

Ironically I believe it came from primitive science, just man's way of understanding and making sense of the world.

From Koran (Muslim book) and Bible. According koran's messages Muslims will decrease and other religions will increase and get whole world under their hands.
For example the war between Iraq and America, America is won the war and as many people knows many muslms die these days. and many muslims don't follow the the islamic traditions.
This is just one example.
