Oh i know That most nuns don't wear it anymore but when they did it was nothing.... but us poor oppressed muslim woman don't know better ....... That’s so stupid I have my right to cover.... what its ok that a 10 goes in the street with her bra and underwear but this is ok right...... It's sad isn't it? People fear what they do not know. Fear of the unknown creates intolerance and bigotry. In my anthropology class in college we looked at ethnocentrism. It happens all over the world.

As far as I am aware nuns have never covered their entire face. I think the reason that people are gettting annoyed is completely the opposite of what you are trying to say.
I think the double standard is more about other people NOT being allowed to cover up or wear anything that is has any remotely religious connotations.
People in the UK are being banned from wearing a crucifix, hooded tops, baseball caps, hats etc etc.
The reason we are given is that anything worn that obscures the face makes it difficult to identify people in the case of a crime - if, for example, I'm not allowed to wear a hooded top or a baseball cap then why should you be allowed to wear a veil?
It's not about being anti-Islam or being racist, it's about the government imposing rules and regulations on some of us and not others and people are getting tired of the inequality - not the veil itself.
If everyone were treated equally then the issue would never have arisen.

Good question.
Nuns are not required to cover their faces and arms below the elbow, although the guidelines seem to be relaxing, with shorter sleeves and modestly raised hemlines. Some don't wear "habits" at all anymore.
Unmarried Jewish women are not required to cover their heads or faces. Married Jewish women in past generations covered their heads and wore modest garments. They were never required to cover their faces. Today, this is also relaxed. You will see most Jewish women in Israel and the rest of the world with uncovered heads, except, or course, the Orthodox Jewish women.
The issue of hair and facial covering in today's society is a complicated one; in many instances, women who wish to cover their heads and faces are protected by laws that keep them from being fired. However, there are instances where it cannot be tolerated, for example, female police officers, fire and rescue personnel, people in security positions, etc. It's adjudicated on a case by case basis.
Peace.

No, she got fired not for wearing a hijab, but for refusing to remove her face veil to let her students see how she moved her mouth when she was teaching them how to talk properly, and for refusing to speak loudly enough for them to hear her. What is the use in teaching languages to small children if they can neither see or hear you speak? That would be like you learning to drive, but with the windows blacked out. It wouldn'twork, either. Everything is not about religion, most is about common sense. if muslims cannot accept the laws of the countries they live in, perhaps they should stay home where they won't be offended by those laws and rules.
and by the way, your religion does not say women should cover their faces in front of children and other women.

I don't know why people are trying to make it their business, but it is human nature to find something wrong with almost everyone. They are starting on you, because they are tired of picking on the Mexicans and People of Color and the Jews and who ever else they figure they can try to down grade. Not all people are this way tho, I believe to each his or her own.

A nun's habit is part of her uniform. It's a path she's chosen and the habit shows who she is. She isn't killed, beaten, or ostrisied if she doesn't wear the habit (I've met plenty of nuns who don't for various occasions). I don't know about Jews, all the ones I've met haven't worn any kind of covering beyond normal clothes. The thing is, all of this is a choice. Muslim women should have a choice to wear the veil (and if she is fired for wearing the veil, that's discrimiation and you can sue). It's not a choice if you face persecution for not wearing or wearing it.

why would they fire you for covering. the only thing is that the covering should be made optional cos i have some muslim girl friends who don't feel like covering but can't cos religion mandates them to do so. their should be freedom about the whole thing like the NUNS have chosen that part, all christians can't just join them.

I live across the street from a convent. The nuns don't wear habits anymore. Haven't for years. They wear jeans. The "Mother Superior" isn't even called that anymore, she's just the "Convent Coordinator."
