I have a 6month old Ridgeback. I was told by many breeders before I bought him that they can't be bothered to play fetch games etc as they are too independant minded. However, my pup loves a bit of a ball game and retreives for me all the time at home. Is this unusual or is the breed being badly presented by those breeders?!
Experiences please!

My dad had 6 Ridge-backs - they don't seem interested unless they can eat what you throw.

One of his Ridge-backs broke into the Kitchen and opened a cupboard and ate over 3lb of frozen tripe once, it was still in blocks around 2.5inch square - the outline of each block could be seen in its gut. It was a hot day, and there was moisture/steam coming from it. Funny and a bit surreal

A friend had 2 Rhodesian Ridgebacks.
They never played ball. They are loyal like a good friend not a dog.
Like all well bred working animals, they are serious about what they do.
In my experience all puppies play with anything they can get.

my sister has had ridgebacks for 10 years and were very familiar with the bread, most ridgebacks dont plat with balls as its not stimulating enough as they are very intelligent dogs.it is unusal but enjoy it your dog obviously does.
