The constant on the go lifestyle and little influence on personal health and fitness have a great deal to do with it. Additionally, the convenience of fast food restaurants and sizing of American portions tend to be three times the norm of many countries that are considered small.

Many factors! One, history. During wars and the Great Depression, people didn't have abundance of food. Now, they compensate all of that lost time by eating rather continuously. Unfortunately, this "continuous eating" is of junk food-- let's take the two most popular companies who offer unhealthy fast food for this: Burger King and McDonald's. Why so much of these two? For business (aka money) and convenience of life style. People who are in business or students looking for a quick lunch or so, will take food which will go fast, hence the name "fast food". Then, there's the freedom in the country. It's highly admirable that they crave freedom so much and actually allow it, but then everyone does anything to their own will, not doing what they should be doing (working out and eating well) even if it means something you don't like. Finally, arrogance. Not to generalize, for that would be a big mistake on my part, but most Americans tend to be a bit full of themselves from being a, if not THE, richest country, and thus do what they want. It's sad, though, because being so-- rich-- that means America has the potential, the capability, to improve their overall health but don't use it! They find making other things for money better, apparently... I love America, but it's got to do more for health or else it's going way down. Without health, you have nothing (ex= can't go out, to walk, to see people, can't eat as much and want you want, less time, less money, etc. Health is the most imporant thing you can have).

Hope I answered you!

Because nowadays were raised in a society that deems it okay to go to McDonalds or Burger King if were too lazy to fix something at home.

I mean yeah, I love McDonalds (not so much BK), but enough of it is enough. You can get seriously sick from all the fat and grease in the food!

As for the people suing the fast food restaurants because theyre becoming obese.. thats a load of crap. I eat fast food, not as often as they probably do, but often enough, and Im not fat!

Its called EXERCISE, people!

It is simple.

Turn on your television and watch it for 24 hours straight (That is one of the problems right there) and count the number of food commercials that come on during that 24 hour period... or just do 8 3 hour periods and count. You will be surprised, depending on the station you watch.

Have you ever been to Europe? (Or are you european?) They go about things completely different than in the US. Many dishes are made to be small meals with wonderful taste.

In the US, restaurants boast about the size of their meals, we have massive chain restaurants that are nothing but all you can eat buffet that is mostly filled with starchy and fattening food, with a small salad bar (Or, sometimes big to be fair) thrown in for good posture. We encourage people to go spend only 5.99 for a large pizza! We idolize food and we eat as much of it as we can.

Even at home, if you don't go out to eat... have you read the ingredients on any frozen meal? How about that can of "Healthy" soup you're about to make?

It's not healthy, we don't bother to take the time to cook from scratch as they do in most other countries. We eat late at night and have a small breakfast.

In germany, there is a saying:

King in the Morning, Queen at noon, and pauper at night.

In other words, have the most food in the early morning. A nice, large, well planned out breakfast. At lunch, eat a hearty meal, but don't go over board. At dinner time, have a very small dinner, keep it light.

The reason they say this is because of how our metabolism works. If you eat a large amount in the morning, you have all day to burn off those calories and work it out of your system. Lunch, you have not much time left so keep it a nice sized meal that is healthy and you have 4 hours - 6 hours to work that off.
Dinner, at 6:00, you have a very small meal with light foods, no heavy starches or fats, and by the time you are getting ready for bed, most of it should have been burned off.

If you, like most americans, eat a very large dinner and then go to bed 4 hours later, your body is not burning up the calories it creates while you are sleeping and those become fat insteadof burned off energy. Your body doesn't need to be full to sleep. In fact, this could probably solve much of the problems faced by people who cannot sleep at night. If they wouldn't eat anything at all past 6 pm, they would find it much easier to fall asleep.

Because Americans have a busy lifestyle they are constantly on the go so most americans do not have time to exercise weekly and make home cooked meals so fast food places become their best friends.

Here in America, we cars, meaning no excersise, we have fast food restaurants everywhere, meaning ... we get hungry easily, and most people don't like to excersise, so.... we get fat. But I'm average. It's not like We're severly obese, we're just 10% overweight. :) lol, I'm big boned i believe

portion size....

After spending close to a year overseas, the first time I got back to the states, I was amazed at the size of the dinners I got at my local restaurants...

I was not used to that in Europe...
