Because they lead very sad lives

I do not react badly. I only resent balsphemy and rudeness. Why would I be offenseive if some one is discussing an idea respectfully or asking a question decently?

It is the way that provokes negative reactions rather than the question or the comment itself.

May Allah bless us all.

Best to have nothing to do with them. Because you are destroying their reason for existing. No matter, that their religion is an affront to your dignity, a direct attack on your ability to make a living, a real attack on your home by their activities, their God wants to smash yours to pieces.

Not only religion, this is politics. An ever ending foot stamping on people's heads. Scientific beliefs can be just as bad although the scientific method is contrary to this.

Does anybody react WELL to criticism?
But to answer your question. It's because most people don't
even know what they are supposed to believe. That's why
they condemn things that others teach, without realizing their faith
teaches the same thing.
Since they lack a real understanding of their faith, they lack
CONVICTION. (A real belief in their belief). Therefore, they
feel "threatened" whenever they hear something new.

Just be glad they have come as far as they have. It was not that long ago historically that you could face real danger for questioning certain religions, even in the western world. I guess you still can in the Middle East. Scientists who in the past proved things in the Bible or in churches teachings were routinely attacked and sometimes killed. The church is not about free speech in any way,it's about slave like adherance.

They shouldn't. I do admit that I may get a little heated when someone criticizes my beliefs but then I take a breath and answer rationally. It is hard for some to do this because they are so passionate in what they believe. Patience comes with experience.

Ummm, because it's a criticism. Personally I don't know any people who react with hugs and kisses when their system of beliefs is being degraded.

It does not bother me one bit if I am critized, Because, religion is not my salvation. Salvation & religion has 2 different meanings, And also I know what I stand for & where I stand at with God in his plan of salvation, & nothing can shake me from that foundation I stand upon. With Jesus Christ being the chief corner stone.

When you think you have a monopoly on truth based on a book written thousands of years ago by men who thought the world was flat and disease are caused by demons, you cannot be expected to behave or think rationally.

We do not all react badly. However, we do get bad reactions when we give reasonable answers to inane questions.
