I don't like any noise during the time we are eating. I want to be able to hear what others are saying.

Depends on the meal. I usually pick jazz (Thelonius Monk, Mose Allison, early Herbie Hancock). Or classical. If I'm serving something Indian, I usually play Ravi Shankar or some other sitar or middle eastern music.

Completely depends on the meal, but some nice classical such as Beethoven or Bach, playing quietly in the background is a nice touch to a small gathering.

Even though I'm not a massive fan (I like him, but I don't love him), Michael Buble seems to suit the dining experience pretty well.

My favorites are light classical playing softly in the background. It is very relaxing.
