Just finished my law degree, I would definitely advise you to do A Level law if you have the opportunity. My 6th Form didn't offer A Level law, in the first year at Uni it was obvious who had and who hadn't done the subject at A Level. You will get a firm understanding of the legal system, the way cases are reported and the basic laws of the land. This will give you a head start above anyone on your course who didn't do the A Level.

As for the other A levels, if your serious about doing Law at University I wouldn't say it matters all that much; however subjects like Business Studies and English (the type that require you to research a topic, form an opinion and write an essay on the issue) will prepare you for the tasks you will undertake doing the law degree.

Hope this helps

Hello Anisha,

You do not necessarily need law at A-level to study it at degree level. If I were you I would go for Maths, English and a subject you enjoy.

I have just graduated with my LLB and I didn't do law at A-level.

If you are in doubt phone up a university that offers law and ask them what subjects to take. They will be happy to advise you.

Ask to talk to the admissions tutor for the subject or get their email address from the university, this will give you a guaranteed reply.

Good luck.

Law, Economics and Business Studies from your preference list.

Personally I would choose English Literature instead of Economics, and Geography or Sociology as an AS.

Try and include a subject that provides a bit of light relief, and doesn't require as much 'brain' power as the other subjects.

My friend did Law at Southampton University. For her A-Levels, she did English, Geography and History. Apparently, at Southampton, they prefer it if you haven't done Law beforehand. Sone Unis are like this. It's worth looking into.
