I accept that women (and men) must dress modestly in the company of strangers, and not display themselves, I accept that Hijab (scarf) is a sign of respect, but where is it said to be mandatory to cover a women's face with the veil. In all my research I have not encountered this ruling!

Ahmad: It says use the veil to cover the bosom, i.e chest! I asked about covering a face, I thought it was only the prophets (PBUH) wives who had to wear face veils to protect the prophets good name from scandal etc.

Qadir: Of course I look at the Qura'n, I'm a muslim. The Qura'n makes so much sense to me (as a scientist and a spiritual person) that there is no other book I want to read to discover how to live!

O Prophet, tell your wives and daughters and the believing women to draw their outer garments around them (when they go out or are among men). That is better in order that they may be known (to be Muslims) and not annoyed..." (Qur'an 33:59)
This is for Hijab
as for Veil
Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Almighty Allah has ordained the believers' women, when they are to go abroad for some purpose, to cover their faces from above their heads and to show only one of their eyes."
As far as i know the Veil is something as the sunnah the way of the prophet not that it has to be done
the Fard is hijab Fard is something that Allah asked us to do and we should.

the veil is present in the qur`an( 24:31. And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and be modest, and to display of their adornment only that which
is apparent, and to draw their veils over their bosoms, and not to reveal their adornment save to their own husbands or
fathers or husbands fathers, or their sons or their husbands' sons, or their brothers or their brothers' sons or sisters
sons, or their women, or their slaves, or male attendants who lack vigour, or children who know naught of women's
nakedness. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And turn unto Allah
together, O believers, in order that ye may succeed)

It is not compulsory for a woman to cover her face, but she must dress modestly and cover her hair. I read somewhere that it was only women related to Prophet Mohammed (saw) who covered their faces.

It is not said in the Quran that the woman should cover her face. The obligation is the hijab. Please view my reply to a similar former question.

no where.
it is a cultural practice.
however, when you make it a political issue, ANY self-respecting Muslimah will do the exact opposite of what you WANT her to do.
Power and Respect to the Muslim sisters!

a woman just won a ruling on the grounds of discrimination because she got told not to wear a full face veil to school (she is a school teacher) now to be honest, i wouldn't want any of my teachers to be wearing a veil unless they were really ugly.
its a load of bollocks really, they should all be shot
