Quantum physics defines the soul as "the observer". I'll give you an example:
You are standing on a hill overlooking a forest at sunset. Your body is standing on the hill and your senses can smell the forest, your eyes can see the sunset, etc. Your mind takes the information from the body and says "yes, that is a tree, yes, that is a sunset, that's the color green here and over there are the colors of the sunset". Your soul says "how beautiful".

One can dominate the other. The choice is the minds. The mind can submit to the soul if it chooses.
Watchman Nee Has a book on this. It is long winded but explains it real clearly. He uses the term soul for the mind and spirit for what you are calling soul. Also try Romans 7 and 8. Its laid out clear there too.
GOD bless you

The mind is a part of the soul, which consists of a mind emotions and a will. It is the non physical part of our being which interacts with our literal surroundings. The mind is where the battles of life are fought and won or lost. The Bible tells us to set our minds upon the things of God and we will not have failings of that lead to sin. The third part of our being is our spirit and that is the part in us that can relate to God. It is the everlasting part in us and what goes to heaven when a Christian dies. Romans 8:5 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, 7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, 8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

The brain thinks. It thinks about work, it thinks about how to do something, it thinks about how to solve a question. The mind has more feelings. It feels love and all those other emotions, and reacts to them. It has a sort of "conscience". It is commons sense. Like the saying, "Are you out of your mind?" aka "Where did your common sense go?" Sorry, I'm not sure if it's from a philosophical or psychological stand point, though I would lean more towards psychological. This is all just my opinion. :)

My 4 year old son summed it up nicely when his father died. We were @ the wake and my son climbed in the casket and yelled at me to "Quit crying, mommy. The warm daddy is with Jesus. Just a cold, plastic man in here." That was 20 years ago.
I believe that the soul is the part of us that goes to Heaven and has eternal life. Our bodies, while they are temples, are just shells for us to use while we are on earth. The mind, on the other hand, is what God gave us to think with. Remember we aren't robots, He also gives us free will.

"Mind" is a term we use to refer to our mental and emotional functions.
"Soul" is a term used to save bad arguments, such as those claiming "life after death" or the personhood of the fertilized egg.
Neither one is a real thing of itself, but at least the term "mind" represents something real. There's no such thing as a "soul".

The soul is a heavier type of spirit form, that is influenced by
the physical/spiritual forces at work in Creation.
The mind, is pure spirit, and free from such influences.
