How high a standard of behaviour do you set when you start with the assumption "everyone sins"?

If everyone sins, how much of an effort will you make to avoid sin? If people who sin can get to Heaven, why bother trying to avoid sinful behaviour? Sin, believe you're forgiven by your faith in Jesus, and sin again.

What standard of behaviour do you set for yourself with such beliefs? Even genocidal maniacs and pedophiles could get into Heaven with that kind of standard, while their victims, if not Christian, would be kept out of Heaven.

It isn't arrogant at all, because, if I were to say ":everyone sins", I would be including myself, which is humbling, not arrogant. The Holy Spirit lives inside every Christian, and it is by His power we are changed from the inside out. Therefore, although we continue to sin, we also become more Christ-like every day. It is the love and praise we have for Jesus Christ and what He did for us on the cross that make us want to renounce our sinful selves. The Bible itself also calls us to repent. Repentance is to ask forgiveness and TURN AWAY from our sins. As Jesus told the woman caught in adultery, "Go, and sin no more". As humans, we are not perfect, we will sin until the day Jesus comes to take us home. But through our faith in Jesus, we are cleansed and made pure. Yes, even pedophiles and genocididal maniacs can get into Heaven if they believe and repent, because in God's eyes, sin is sin. There is no sin worse than another, it's all sin. Period.

But...the Bible says "everyone sins and falls short of the Glory of God"...which simply seems to say to us that we are not God, we sin, and God will forgive us IF we are sorry. That doesn't mean we as Christians, have no moral standard, it just means, as Christians, we have the wonderful opportunity, of Christ's sacrifice, to know that He loves us, and we can try harder to do better with what we know.
That's a "cop out" to say that Christians are arrogant and self serving, and have no standard of behavior, by having the "assumption" as you claim, to not bother trying to avoid sinning. Any TRUE CHRISTIAN knows that we all make mistakes, and the faith in Jesus, doesn't make us use that as an excuse to sin more!!! It makes us realize where we've failed, and since we love Jesus, we try to do better...
Don't you sin? Are you perfect? Wouldn't you want to be forgiven?
You're missing the whole point! Gross misunderstanding!

The word "sin" means to miss the mark of perfection. Therefore even babies who have no wrong thoughts are sinners as they are imperfect and suseptable to the frailties of sin, such as illness.
The scriptures frequently link errors with sinning and these are what \I beleive you refer to. The error may be intentional or unintentional, either a conscious deviation from what is right or an unknowing act, a mistake which, nevertheless, brings the person into error and guilt before God.
The apostle Paul in his letter to the Hebrews speaks of “the deceptive power of sin,” which has a hardening effect on human hearts.
And at 1 John 3:4 5& 8 it says “Everyone who practices sin is also practicing lawlessness, and so sin is lawlessness. He who carries on sin originates with the Devil.” So Those who deliberately choose a course of sin, making a practice of it, are viewed by God as criminals. The course they have chosen is the one that Satan himself first took!

Just because everyone sins is not a reason not to sin. Yes, people who have sinned can get into Heaven, but God allows no unforgiven sin into Heaven. Therefore, striving to commit no sin, and repenting immediately when we do (I believe you and I have discussed before what true repentance is, so I'll not bore you again) is the only way. Anyone who dies without Christ and with unforgiven sin will not see Heaven.

You sound like a person who has been burned by religion. Believe me, we've all been burned by religion. I'm pretty sure God can't stand religion either. But open your heart a little to Christ and see what He can do for you. He'll show you what you must do to get to Heaven, and He can take the anger that sends you running all over Y!Answers telling everyone else how imperfect they are.

As someone else mentioned, I don't say everyone sins, God says that. The Bible teaches "...all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." and "..the only way to heaven is through the Father." People are human and are not perfect. As Christians, we don't WANT to sin any longer, but being human we will.

I try to be a good example of what God wants me to be. I mess up and can rest assured that my Savior will forgive me if I only ask. There has only been one perfect person who walked on earth and we hung Him.

Have a wonderful day!

you need to understand this...that's through far the most favourite Bible verse, even those no longer properly versed contained in the Bible must be able to remember it. For God so loved the international, that he gave his in hardship-free words begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him might want to no longer perish, yet have eternal existence. -John 3:16 Now certain, it would not say word for word that "God loved people" yet, it does say that "God so loved the international". Which in this context signifies that he loves each and every man or woman as in people. God does no longer hate people, yet incredibly he hates the sin interior of them. He punishes someone for having sin, no longer because he hates the fellow. If a e book states that God hates...as an social gathering gays, with slightly of success the author who wrote the e book acknowledged that He hates homosexuality, no longer the people who practice it.

Everyone does sin. All have fallen short of the righteousness of God, except for Jesus.

That's why it's not about us ... it's about Jesus, who provides forgiveness for sins and eternal life to anyone who truly has faith in him, and is baptized.

Why would anyone pass up a deal like that?

You're assuming that acknowledging one's own sins and working towards holiness through the Holy Spirit are mutually exclusive. This is a false assumption. And as someone mentioned--it's acutally the height of arrogance to think you don't sin. A true recognition of the sin nature in us is actually a humble thing, not an arrogant thing. Christ taught holiness so true Christians strive for it.

Hello Orion.. :)

I have sinned and I am not proud of it..I used to be a drug addict, child abuser, whore etc..you name it..I probably have done it all (accept murder)..though I was at the point of killing myself..and even tried in the past, so I was also guilty of attemeted murder.. :(

No one who sins, can enter into the Kingdom of Heaven (this includes believers that are not following the Lord, as God Word tells us to do..for the Bible states:

Revelation 21

7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

We are to be perfect, even as our Father in Heaven is perfect..this is not a request, but a Loving Command..

For many are called, but only a few are chosen..

It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than a rich man to enter into the Gate...

Matthew 7

The Narrow Gate

13 ¶ Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

14 because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

A Tree Is Known by Its Fruit

15 ¶ Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
