I've got the same problem, depression and insomnia. Some people have trouble dropping off, I wake too early.
There's very little you can do; I suggest getting into a routine at bedtime, warm drink but no caffeine, warm bath.
Don't watch the news before bedtime! Do something soothing. Listen to chill out music or read.
If you can cat nap during the day, great; but not in the 4 hours before bedtime.
It will wear off, given time. There is no cure for insomnia, it sorts itself out; so in the meantime take it easy.

Make sure you get up reasonably early in the morning (9.00am should be a lie in).
Do not sleep during the day, no matter how tired you are.
Make sure you get some exercises during the day. Maybe a 45 min brisk walk each day.
Try to relax and clear your mind of worries during the evening. Then go to bed with a book, and read until you are tired enough to sleep.
Most of the people I know who had trouble sleeping at night were spending a lot of time sleeping during the day.

R u actually taking anti depressants, because some i've tried didnt suit and had bad nights sleeps all the time. Worth seeing your doc. You say life isnt too bad, which is irrelevant, its how you feel within yourself. I think you know its depression related deep down, go to the docs and see what they can do. your not alone, i'm just the same. x

Sorry to hear you are having problems sleeping , I see you have tried herbal remedies , I take Kalms myself (the blue one) as I had trouble sleeping too , these work for me , have you tried to have a nice hot bath with lavender , then drink a cup of Camomile tea with honey 2 teabags as it tastes better that way , your depression does not help as this is one of the symptoms , I hope this helps sweetheart.

Bad diet, lack of exercise, not prioritizing your life. Been there, done that myself, so I know - & I've also had this lecture, too!!! Spend less time on Answers, if you have to, take a 5-10 minute walk, get some fresh air & come back to Answers, cos it IS good here, after all, but not at the expense of your health!!!

Watching the news helps increase brain activity(I think). And that won't help you sleep. Read a book or just relax on the couch or something. If that doesn't work, have you been on your regular sleep schedule? If so, you should try and sleep earlier.

Do you need to go to the toilet fairly often too? If you do then this could be diabetes... You should go to the doctors if this persists and explain in detail all of your symptoms. Even if you take tablets, for example sleeping tablets, then these still wouldn't work if it is in fact diabetes. Good luck xx

do u sleep in a lot? if so force yourself to get up early and within a few days you should start to drop off, failing that the man has a point about sex or masturbation depending on your situation, also try excersise like running but not too close to bed time, failing all that consult your Doctor

sometimes if you have a nap in the daytime it can be difficult to sleep at night. I would suggest seeing your practice nurse or doctor as there are other medical conditions which can cause tiredness - thyroid disorders, anaemia and diabetes are to name but a few. Sometimes also a nice relaxing holiday can do the trick as well!!
