For more intelligent and helpful answers you might want to try asking the question in a different category, although dogs do know more about love than most people I've met. Try asking about love in all the right places (sorry, I couldn't resist) such as in the relationships or society and culture categories. Good luck!

But while I'm here...there are many different kinds of love but the basics are affection and commitment, giving as well as receiving by mature and capable people. Chemistry is important in a successful male/female relationship but not so much in a mother/child relationship. Respect is vital in all relationships. Anything less can harvest jealously and resentment over time.

Good luck to you and may you find the love of your life. If you are ready for its good and not so good times then you have an idea what love is like. It takes a strong love to ride through life's ups, downs and obstacles. Both people must be willing to work together even when one of you is up and the other is down and huge obstacle is right in front of you.

Love Wolfie's answer to this. "In love" is the feeling. "Love" is actively enriching the life of another person in some way, meeting a need, doing something that is LOVING. And not what YOU think is loving, but what that other person actually needs.

There is no real answer to this question but what I have learned of what love is to me and that is the word LOVE itself holds the answer.......

(L)isten: and validate them by hearing and empathizing.
(O)verlook: their minor character flaws as they will overlook yours.
(V)alue: who they are and what they mean to you.
(E)xpress: how you love them not just with words but with actions.
