When I was younger my Dad-Dad (Grandfather) would often get a sore throat. He always kept some kind of cherry flavored alcoholic beverage nearby in these types of situations but I can't remember what it is! He said it burns your throat like crazy but afterwards your throat feels so much better. Has anyone ever heard of this before? And if so, what is it?!

My dad used to get really bad sore throats every year. He'd eat a clove of garlic and gargle with whisky. Don't know if it really works, but afterwards I'm sure you forget about your throat!
