A low fat diet is when you reduce your intake of saturated fat.

Most people make the harmful mistake of reducing ALL fat from their diet. You need fats in your diet.

Also watch your calories and sugar intake. Don't just concentrate on fat. Some people lower all the fat in their diet and eat more sugar. That is also very bad.

If you do a low fat diet - be ware that the CORRECT method of doing a low fat diet is keep your saturated fat intake down, and your calorie intake down.

Make sure you eat lots of vegetables, fibre and some fruit.

Keep it balanced.

Low-fat diets
Low-fat diets were popular during the 1980s and 1990s, encouraging people to eat foods low in fat (or without fat altogether) and instead eat foods high in carbohydrates. For instance, these diets told people to eat less fat junk food or sweet snacks, instead, you can choose low-calorie, and high-fiber foods like fruits and vegetables. These will help people feel full longer, and make any diet plan more effective. Also, plan your meals and buy the food you need so that you will not be tempted to turn to fast food when you are hungry.

The general public came to believe, partly due to information from low-fat diet proponents, that carbohydrates were "energy food" and that only fat made people fat. This led to high consumption of low-fat foods rich in refined carbohydrates (notably corn syrup), which led some people to gain more weight.

Some low-fat diets were healthier, focusing on consumption of whole grains, vegetables and lean meats. (See Pritikin diet.) But even these diets did not recognize the importance of essential fatty acids.

PLEASE NOTE: The best diet is one you intend on sticking too for life! Aim to eat 5-6 small meals a day rather than 3 big ones. Additionally, enjoy the foods you love-simply eat less of them like a platter of mini samples to avoid going into binging rages.

I think it's keeping your fat intake under 3o%. But, don't cut the fats too drastically. You need fat in your diet to absorb vitamins and minerals and to help and protect your vital organs.

That means less than 30% of your calories should come from fats. Eat less fatty meat, butter, mayo, cheese, sweets, etc.
