I'm 30 and for weeks now I have been having trouble sleeping!
I have trouble getting to sleep and when I eventually do drop off, I am awake again, sometimes within half an hour... then it is every half hour all night, plus the slightest little noise adds to that.
I don't have any major problems in my life, enjoy a healthy social life, have a great family and lots of friends.
I refuse to take tablets and have tried drinking myslef into a stupor, (still doesn't work) meditation, exercise and just lying there quietly hoping i will at least feel rested...
I used to be quite still sleeper, but I am finding that when I wake up I am upside down in my bed or on a couple of occassions wake up coz I have fallen out.. (I have a double bed but am single so sleep alone)..
Any suggestions...

Get some pure essential lavender oil and put a few drops on each side of your pillow. Make sure your room is quite cool and aired. When going to sleep, decide what time in the morning you are going to wake up then say right I'll think about anything else tomorrow. Then start to watch the darkness behind your eyes and focus on it, nothing else start to see the wee patterns and squiggles that you get.

Also if you are lying awake worrying about getting to sleep and knowing just how tired you'll be the next day, just do what my wee brother told me and relax and realise that it's ok and at least you are giving your body a good rest which is doing it good and helping your health.

Also try not to sleep in to make up for lack of sleep cause then you'll not be tired enough the next night.

All these things work a treat for me anyway.

You say you have nothing major going on in your life but sleepless nights can be caused by something unconscious - like somebody at work you fancy, or don't get on with. A project that has all of your attention, be it either work related or personal. Try to think of everything going on in your life that could possibly have you thinking more than usual. think about ways to stop them from being on your mind - like making amends with someone, telling the person you like them, getting an action plan for jobs so you feel better about them.

Also watching TV before bed can make you restless, especially the News or a documentary, try to have 20 minutes of nothingness before bed. eg. take a shower or bath or do an extra long session of taking your make up off and combing your hair. This will free the mind and hopefully allow you to get to sleep more quickly.

Have you tried the Lavender Pillow sprays for helping sleep? Is the room too hot or too cold?

Hope I helped. Good luck.

I find that the following things relax people to aid sleep
1. a hot milky drink such as horliks or a plain cup of camomile tea
2. lavender drops on the pillow - be sure not to use too much as excess lavender can cause a headache.
3. having a hot bath before bed can be relaxing.

you need to ensure that you do not bring your work worries home with you which can haunt you at night. Alcohol can make you sleepy but the quality of sleep is rubbish!! you are better stopping off it

I don't agree with sleep aid medicines for various reasons so I won't recommend any of them.

Instead here are a few things that may help:
A warm bath followed by stretching your body out-get loose and less tense afterwards lay there with the lights out and think of your body parts start by thinking of your how your toes are feeling, travel up to your ankles, calves, just completely clear head-it's extremely important to go to bed with clear thoughts. Concentrate on nothing but the body part you are on. Listen to yourself in your head. And travel on up the body this relaxes you and your mind and helps you to fall asleep. Remove any distractions from your sleeping area and try not to work in the same room that you sleep-although, I am guilty of that. Some say drinking warm milk helps-I haven't tried it, but I have given it to infants.

There could be many ways. But I presonally recommend you taking the herbal remedies.

I do not know the severity of your case, but mine was devastating.

I visited a local homeopathic doctor, and following her advices with proper herbs, boom! My sleeping had improoved like a miracle.

Excuse me, I can not write you on what you need to buy, because I am not a doctor, but I strongly recommend you to see an herbal docter.

Remember, the sleeping is the most important physical activity in your lifetime. Did you know this? Deprivation of sleep is a common way to torture the interrogaters.

Or... you can type the key words "sleeping problem" opn the internet, and see what happens.

good luck.

warm a blanket up in the dryer while thats getting warm, drink some hot chocolate. When done drinking the hot chocolate get the warm blanket lay down in your bed and you will fall asleep. If you have a clock in your bedroom get rid of it as you will keep looking at the time.If you have a tv in your bedroom turn it on low and this will help you relax. If else fails ask your doctor if you can go to a sleep clinic and get help from professionals.I also sleep with a breathing respirator as i stop breathing when i sleep ,this could be your problem as well. You wake up fast as u cant breathe. This respirator will keep the airways open so you can breathe better and sleep better.

Okay, so you don't want to take pills, and everything else isn't working?? Let me suggest just trying Advil PM or AmbienCR, i use ambien and it's FANTASTIC! Just because you can't sleep doesn't necessarily mean u have problems in ur life. It could just be distraction of some sort. I mean you are 30, and single. That could be hard don't u think? That could be unconciously bothering you. If you still refuse to use pills, then date more so your not single anymore.
Good luck with that.

When you find you can't sleep, put on the light and get a book -- the more educational, spiritual, philosophical, the better. For example: anything by Deepak Chopra, Bhagavadgita, Daodejing. You'll be fast asleep before you know it! Works for me!

bless you hon! i know its awful to suffer from insommnia, i get that during times of really bad emotional stress... i found rescue remedy (a homeopathic medicine) works really well, especially at night... you can get different ones depending on what you need (i.e. stress, depression etc) so you might find one that suits you. other than that, try sleeping in another room. sometimes when you see your bed where you normally sleep, you immediately think about not sleeping, so try changing where you sleep and you might kick start into good sleep pattern. i tried that once and it worked for me... i slept in the lounge for a few days then managed to sleep in my bed after that... i wish you luck mate x
