This guy I know saw a pic of me in a bikini, having never seen my figure before, I am 5ft 8 and a us size 4-6 (have to wear 6 trousers because of my hips), my figure is not fat in fact I get hassled about being "too thin" from time to time, but it is very hourglass, I have a very small waist and quite wide/round hips...not fat hips, just in comparison to my waist...well my waist lookes very nipped in in comparison. When he saw my pic he said though I had a "good figure" her if was honest prefers girls who are "ruler" shaped straight-up-and-down without the nipped-in waist and curved hips of an "hourglass" figure........
well now I feel horrible like I must be really ugly and have a very undesirable figure, and there is nothing i can do about it either because that's just my bone structure and in fact when I have lost weight (making me underweight) I tend to have even more curves because I lose on my waist. Is it true that guys don't like an hourglass figure and like "ruler" insted?

Curves are more feminine than a ruler, the ruler shape has only become fashionable because that is what shows off clothes best on a catwalk. The ruler shape is more like an adolecent boy than a woman, so maybe your friend is actually a repressed homosexual 8 P

You are asking too general a question... Think of you and your friends and family, do any of them the exact same look? No way. Guys are the same. There are plenty of guys who love hourglass figures and plenty who likes the pencil figure look you mentioned. Don't be disheartened as it being a personal thing. It sounds to me like you have a great figure, feminine and slender. Be confident, I have an hourglass figure but I am 5'10 and probably a lot curvier still. I think its the confidence in whatever body you have that makes you attractive. Don't look for others approval or diapproval and don't judge yourself on one persons opinion (unless its you own!) Also, no matter how much you lose weight, your bone structure will always be the same. Women were designed to carry babies and we need big hips for that I'm afraid! Make sure your weight loss is healthy and you are doing it for the right reasons - ie, not just to impress someone else, you will only end up resenting them for not accepting and loving you however you look.

Noooo! Hourglass figures are very sexy - well thats what my boyfriend tells me! I used to get paranoid because i dont look like a stick thin model, but then i learned to love my body and thats what you need to do too!
Think of all the lusted after celebrities - Catherine Zeta Jones, Halle Berry both have hourglass figures. Don't let one man bring down your self esteem - beauty is in the eye of the beholder....we all find different things as being beautiful
So you are beautiful!

Most of the men I've met prefer an hour glass figure.
Curvy is feminine
straight up and down is more masculine.
Are you sure your friend isn't gay?
Anyway. I wouldn't worry. Your figure sounds great. I'd love to be that tall!!! If you are happy and confident with your body, then you will give off positive vibes, and other people will find you more attractive.
When you find the right guy, he will love you just the way you are.

STOP worrying about what guys think. If you feel good and your a size 4-6 then stop worrying. So what if he prefers a "ruler" . We all wish certain things about ourselves were different. put it into context... you have a healthy body... some people aren't so lucky. Guys will love you for you not the width of your hips...

From everything i know about men, i would say that the majority like the hourglass figure. Their brains are programmed to like that best, cos good bust and hips =healthy = good for child-bearing. Obviously, this may not go through men's minds, they just think Mmmmm lovely! but that is what nature intended them to think!
You shouldnt base your feelings about your body around what ONE man (or any man) says about it.
You sound lovely but over-sensitive.
Really don't worry about it - his opinion is not what most men would think!

Personally I prefer curves. I think curves offer a much better image. It's not about how you look however, and there is no right or wrong answer, different blokes like different things.
On a far more basic note, I think a curvier figure is damn sexy.

No, he was just wierd. I think maybe he prefers a more androgynous figure, which is not typical of most men. Most guys like curves, as they are gentically hardwired to find curves appealling. Don't feel bad, you sound absolutely gorgeous. Take care : )
