There are two cases right now where both families of people killed by excessive force say that the police are lying about what happened. I personally have been in a situation where the police outright lied about what happened. Why don't people think police are capable of lying? Yes, it can be a dangerous job (however, the ratio of police to civilian death has changed in favor of police), but it's a PUBLIC servant job! I was on a mental health floor at the hospital and I got training on how to deal w/ patients physically attacking me...surprise, we aren't armed so we have to use our bodies! Why are more and more people being killed?

After all the things I've learned about how police are nowadays, I feel like one woman I heard about who told her friend that she didn't call the police when she thought a prowler was in her house b/c she's more afraid of the police (btw, she is black).

Yes, my point in asking my question is that they are human. I have no problem w/ people whatever their occupation making mistakes. It's when those mistakes are not addressed or blame shifted I have a problem with. Where is the learning, where is the innovative thinking? Technology is BOOMING w/ the times. Why can't crime fighting also be smart???

All I'm saying is out world won't fall apart if we blame police for excessive force. It's the dodging that keeps them from progressing to find better means of dealing w/ the public. Most people are grateful after the fact for the hardships in their lives b/c it made them better people. Mistakes make us take inventory...Why can't police do the same?

"Between 1990 and 1998, when the nation's murder rate declined by 20 percent, the number f murder stories on network newscasts increased 600 percent (not counting stories about O.J. Simpson)" Culture of Fear (Barry Glassner)

It's lack of education (most just require high school degree) and power that's the problem.

FYI, we NEVER called security for help on our mental health floor, which btw was locked so security can't just "bust" in to come to our rescue! My point is I can handle someone attacking me, why are more and more police bringing out the gun on UNARMED people?

There are some real bad people out there, real bad! And it takes someone similarly like the bad guy to get the bad guy. And if a few innocent people get in the way, well that's just to bad. Wrong! I've always said: the criminal and the police are the same, only the criminal acts first. Now, I'm not a violent person, I have no DUI's, no felony's, one B misdemeanor (and that one is in question), I don't smart mouth the police, and I'm 59 years old. Yet, I've been harassed many times, tackled and beat up, sexually molested when I was a minor, LIED TO, and laughed at. And then after a felony hit & run on my vehicle they did nothing, absolutely nothing. After a feloney vandalism on another car, again they did nothing. Two years ago I to had a burgular in my house. I was so fed up by this time I did't bother calling the police, why should I, WHY! WHY! WHYYYYY!!!..... I do not believe that everyone in any profession is alike, theres good an bad in everything and all of us, but those with absolute power must be scrutinized very closely and the bad must be removed.

yes there are some good officers but you are 100% correct in saying that some are bad when they abuse someone even if they are in jail and that person dies and the responsible party that was identified and named before death runs from a 30+ yr career thats guilt on top of guilt i am dealing with a serious situation right now with a huge cover up all the way to the police saying that they have no arrest report on the person that died and i have the paperwork to prove he was arrested and he was escorted to the hospital by the authorities yes they definitely lie i feel bad for the good ones and i feel sorry for the citizens of this town have a good day

People believe police lie, why do you think you see police on trial. If they lie is not the question, the question is why do people go out of there way to try to make life hard for a cop. Like the lady who's complaining in these forums about receiving a speeding ticket because she was pacing a cop going 65 in a 50 who then "slammed" on his breaks and pulled her over. Not every cop is out to get you in the world and not every cop is bad, they are just the ones you always hear about there are thousands of cops in the world and only a small fraction of them fall under the area you are talking about

You know, that reminds me of the time I was a patient in a mental ward. The nurses and their aids would turn off my TV program then lie about it. I think all mental health workers lie to their patients. I wonder why people don't believe me when I tell them this. By the way, the last time one of those aids turned off my program, I kicked her a** while she watched the security guard trying to get in the locked door. Boy are they stupid!

Oh I believe it alright, dear! This is why cops put themselves above the law:

1. They are tough when it comes to catching felons and arresting. When *they* break the law, they cover for each other.

2. The chief knows there are problems. But, Internal Affairs is instructed to dismiss grievances that lack video taped proof of the allegations.

3. The mayor of the town is aware of the rats working as cops. But, has instructed the chief and Internal Affairs to keep it private, to avoid citizen lawsuits.

When you go to the police station to pick up a grievance form, you'll surely meet a "caring soul" trying to talk you into not doing it,promising to take care of it himself. Ignore that. Pick up the form, fill it, swear it, and turn it in. Wait for Internal Affairs dismissal...

BUT STILL, FILE YOUR GRIEVANCE! Don't let that discourage you. It may overflow the cup. It goes in the pig's personnel file too, which may be under orders of scrutiny by a judge in the future. And, you also have a statement to forward to your legislators. Don't keep the abuse to yourself.

Not ALL police are like this. However, think about where police are chosen from; the human race. They, like others, are merely a reflection of their species.

In other words, it is human nature to do 'whatever it takes' to get yourself out of trouble. That includes lying.

Police personnel are people, and they lie and distort the truth like everyone else. Anyone who refuses to believe this is got their head in the sand.

Yes there are some bad cops just as there are bad ministers, priests, bankers, and factory workers. Pretty simple in most cases if you don't want the Cops to thump your butt do not fight them. Just do as they ask. Most police officers by a large margin are honest and really wanting to help their communities. When your in trouble, being attacked, robbed, or kidnapped who is going to help you? Can some police officer lie? Sure. Do most? No! Most people that claim abuse are not telling the whole story. We ask them to pull people from burning cars, tell parents their kid is dead in a car accident, face a gunman to pull our butts out of a hostage situation, and take down drug crazed people flashing knives .Then we expect them to stay calm and do nothing when people spit on them, call them names, and threaten them. Then pay them like crap on top. Bet if your mental health patient pulls a gun you call the cops too. Then what disarm them without hurting them too? If that's what you want you don't need a cop. Sorry but if you pull a gun, knife, baseball bat, brick, or club on me I'm going to shoot you on the spot and not even say I'm sorry. And no I am not a cop.

Realize that cops are just people. No different than me and you... You got good and bad cops... Just like good and bad guys... Most cops lie from my own experiences... And it's their position of power that really sets them off to do alot of things... As population increases... So does crime... So as a result... they are getting more fed up with people and thus killings increase... Harsh but true. Alot of people just dont give a damn...
