Why not try community service volunteers their website is csv.org uk
You can work in various voluntary positions. I worked for a year in central London with homeless young people full-time, which included a small basic allowance plus free accommodation and food. It was a really positive experience that help me to decide on a relevant career path. I am now working in palliative care social work in a central London hospice. The experience of volunteering is something that gave me an insight into a career.

I do not know which country you are living in. In the West, there are institutions, where such volunteers are welcomed and organised voluntary work is quite easy. Here, in India, even for voluntary work, you have to fend for yourself. Many charitable minded persons, have to struggle hard, to start a charity as an institution. Once, they establish themselves, the aid and donations pouring in. I would advise you to approach such voluntary organisations, who are generally in need of helping hands, and offer your voluntary help and in course of time, you may decide to continue your service there itself or start a charitable trust on your own. In India, the charitable organisation are required more in the days to come. With the family values getting eroded, there is more requirement for establishing old age homes, where quality care is required to be offered to the old people. Orphanages are also required to be set up where care and affection could be imparted to the destitute children.

Hi, I recently started voluntary work. I found the best place to look was the main library in your town centre. They have people who work in the library that try to help match your skills to a voluntary job, you are interested in. There are many types of job, from walking dogs to tutoring. There should be something for you there. I hope you are successful. It can be very rewarding and certainly looks good on your C.V.

Why not call in at your local library and check out their notice board, or ask for leaflets giving details of different charitable organisations needing help. There is a wide variety of work needing voluntary helpers. For example, The Red Cross or St Johns Ambulance. Then there are smaller charities such as Help The Aged or Children in Need.
One thing is for sure, if you are sincere, you will be very welcome. Go for it!

If you choose to volunteer in some school districts they will require a fingerprinting card. They can tell you where to get one. Many VA hospitals are in need of volunteers with so many guys/gals coming back home hurt. Also, local food banks need help as well since it is getting close to Thanksgiving. Volunteering with the Deaf and Blind, you can start by checking out the Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in many states. Also, there are many residential schools that need volunteers. And you don't have to know how to sign, they still need help. So there are many areas, you can choose to volunteer. Even Organizations and auxillaries that need help with returning Veterans. Such as the DAV-Disabled American Veterans organization. Just to name a few. Hope this helps.

Try the Red Cross, or run a marathon, but being a volunteer is a great start, if you are in Louisiana I know of the greatest non profit organization feed the children, 100% legitimate charity organization in the world. It was founded by a very rich man who gave up all of his money and assets to help the poor.

Just decide what type of work you'd like to do and contact any organization that does that kind of service. Many communities also have a volunteer placement service that will match your skills with the needs of organizations that need help. Check your phone book under Social Service Organizations.

I would search the web as there are plenty of good causes out there that are looking for kind hearted people like you. Just make sure if it is charity it is a registered charity and they are not taking the piss - you could always go to your local church
