This story isn't inresting but, its funny. My first night working at a new station. A guy pulled up as I was walking out and told me that he had just caught his 3 year old daughter shoplifting some candy. He had already returned the candy but, he wanted me to put a little scare into her. He opened the door to this poor little girl crying so hard and soon as she saw me she cried harder. Not knowing what to say I just told her its not good to steal and to promise to never do it again. The guy thanked me and left.

I read Joe R's story about the father who caught his three year old shop lifting.
I was often asked by citizens to scare their children or I would hear people say,"Johnny if you don't behave yourself I'm going to have that officer take you to jail!" After my first couple of years on the street I finally got enough of hearing this. I would ask the parent or sitter, "Do you realize what you're doing to that child by saying that?" You're causing that child to be afraid of the police and God forbid if you ever have to make a missing person report on your child and we're out there trying to find him/her and they're hiding from us because they're afraid! The best advice I can give you is what you learn in the police academy use it on the streets. Some of your fellow officers are going to laugh at you and say, "You're not in the academy anymore you don't have to do that!" Smile and say thanks but continue to do just as you were trained to do and you will get home to your family at the end of your shift!
Good luck to you and God bless!

I'll tell you one. It 11:30 at night. I find a guy on the river bank with his girlfriend. I surprise him with his meth. Good arrest. I put him in the back of the car and go help his girlfriend carry their crap up from the river. She opens the trunk and there's a nice rifle, right next to the meth lab parts. I go to make the rifle safe and grab it and out rolls the grenade. Yep, booby trapped. Luckily the pin didn't come all the way out. Bomb squad found 2 more explosives in the car. Good luck out there and let's remember how bad the cops are for no reason.

My first day on the street--there was a rape that happened in a car. After working the scene, the LT. said, "Hey--newbie.....go move the car up into that parking lot." I mean, they had just collected semen samples from the drivers seat. So, I went to the LT's car, got out his jacket put it on the seat.....and drove the car up to the parking lot. Put the jacket back in his car.........and he never knew. Those who did see it, never screwed with me again. LOL

When you come on " The Job " they give you a bag of marbles and every time you screw up they take away a marble.
When you lose all your marbles they make you a boss.
Remember to keep your " Hands clean, your eyes open and your mouth shut "
