You can make authentic Limoncello with 100-proof vodka.
100-proof vodka has less flavor than a lower proof one. Also the high alcohol level will ensure that the limoncello will not turn to ice in the freezer.

I imagine you could use Everclear if you can find it, which is 190 proof and 151 proof but is illegal to purchase in some states because the alcohol content of Everclear is so high and people tend to drink so much of it that health problems like alcohol poisoning can occur. Considering though that Limoncello is made with a simple syrup that dilutes the alcohol and it's not supposed to be consumed in large quantities as it's a digestif, this shouldn't present a problem unless the people you're serving it to have no control.
I found 160 proof Vodka in White Plains, NY and made limoncello with that and it turned out well.
I've also used good old Absolut with very good results.

I buy 190 proof alcohol from a company called Distillery King....they are based on the Gold Coast but deliver all over Australia..its a neutral cane spirit and I use it for making Limoncello and its perfect!!!! :-)

You can buy it from a pharmacy, but you will need a very good reason! Try word of mouth! maybe a grappa distiller can help.
