I know how you feel. I really do. I was there.
A few years ago I was skiing and got rear-ended by a beserk snowboarder. Didn't notice anything at first, just some discomfort, but it just kept on getting worse. At one point, I hadn't sat down for almost 2 years. Sitting just hurt too damn much.
Then I was bedridden for 5 months, because I couldn't even stand anymore for more than 5 minutes. My dad would take me to the doctor's office, and the first thing I would say when I got there would be, "I hope you don't mind, but I HAVE TO lie down on this waiting room carpet, because I can't stand because of the pain." Even on morphine, the pain was this bad.
All this time, I was looking for a medical solution. Best doctors, months of waiting times, and the best they could tell me was, "You really shouldn't be having these symptoms" and look at me like I'm making it up. Then I found a massage therapist who promised me we would dance together after 5 months of treatment. I didn't believe him. Sure enough, after 5 months I was dancing at my best friend's wedding. These days, I can go to school and work again. I mean, I can function, even though the discomfort is always there. I have episodes of worse pain, but just go back to my massage therapist and soon feel better. There is hope. You just have to keep looking for a solution. Don't put your life in the hands of one doctor. They are not gods, and often they think that if they can't see a condition, it's not as bad as the patient says.
Don't kill yourself!!!! I've had these thoughts too. It's normal when you have a lot of pain. If you have to stay in bed, try to distract yourself by reading, TV, computer, anything really. Meditation also can help a lot with controlling pain. It can give you a few minutes' respite when you're not thinking of the pain. I hope this helps you. If you want more info, put up another question in the next couple hours. I'll be checking back.

Best bet- Surgery. A 2-3 hour procedure will at least get rid of the pain. You will be stuck on mild meds and PT for a while, but that's a small price to pay for being pain free. Hope you get better.

Acupuncture is useful for controlling back pain and it also comes in handy for treating withdrawal symptoms. The current popular medical solution for back pain is fusion of the appropriate discs, but this can cause problems with mobility of the back. Bone fusion is only recommended if absolutely necessary.

this may sound too easy- but then you have no excuse for not trying it- get ahold of some comfrey-it is also known as knit-bone...one of the ways it can assist you is by digesting it- if you can-get it in powder form and eat 2 tbs a day-stock your system with 3xs the normal dose of vitamin c every day- and if you are able to take baths-take them as hot as you can stand them- this will greatly improve your body blood flow, and will help raise your ammune system so as to assist you in your healing- and the best possible thing you can apply directly to your back is lavender- i really wish you the best- this is not a very quick remedy, it could take up to a month for you to make a full recovery. and after (probably ~ 2 wks time) you feel good enough to stretch w/o fear of straining yourself- you should slowly get in to a routine os easy stretches, until then rest up and drink a little wine if you can- if you dont like wine, try an increase in red-meats(not well done if you can stomach it), and loads of chammomile tea.....

First of all i can't believe that the dr. would just cut you off like that KNOWING you are going to have withdrawals!!! That is just downright cruel!!! I have had 2 major back surgeries and had to end up having my lumber fused!!!!!!!! THEN i was doing physical therapy for my back when my left hip started killing me and right knee blew up! I go to an ortho dr. and he looks at me all weird and says........you need to total hip replacement...but FIRST i have to have my knee fixed ..(torn ligaments). I have severe scoliosis and degenerative joint disease nowl AND you thought YOU wanted to kill yourself?????????? BUT good luck to you cause you will probably have some discomfort the rest of your life like i will......................fun, fun, fun getting old, right?
