On the horizon

Although it may not be exotic or of that of a typical location to watch a sunset in all it's splendour...I would have to say that the most memorable was when I were at the sea side resort of South port.

We were sat on the surprisingly clean and well looked after sands of the South port beach, in the distance, Black pool could also be seen.

The sun's position changed in almost in a few blinks of an eye but with every move, was a splash of golden orange complimenting the sky and filling the dark waters of the sea below. It really was a wonderful sight to behold and treasure.

We spent the rest of the time talking amongst ourselves well after sunset and then went off to get some grub!

It just goes to show that you do not have to go abroad or travel far to witness a great and spectacular sunset and have a fun time.

I think that many of those mentioned here are also amazing and worth travelling for but for those who cannot or do not wish to venture across the seas, why not just take a plane ride up to the other side of the country with many a loved member of your family?

I really recommend it :)

My favourite sunset would have to be at a place called 1770 (seventeen-seventy) in Queensland, Australia. The best time of the year for these glorious sunsets are in June and July. The people who are staying at the camping ground all head down to the beach for a sunset drink. It is a great atmosphere and many an awesome sunset.

On our island of Paros countless visitors take countless photos of the big red ball sinking into the misty horizon. This is the typical high season sunset.
Yet I have seen this so many times it is boring. For me the fantastic sunsets are in the spring and autumn when the mist has cleared and there is a scattering of clouds to catch the sun's fractured rays. Add the rock formations and small islands in the foreground and you have the perfect sunset.

In Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.

The whole Kathmandu is below a circle of mountains.
Beautiful sun sets and sun rises are pride of Nepal

Even more beautiful sunset is the sunset on Everest, the Highest Mountain on this planet, which can only be seen in Nepal. That is my favorite sunset.

I used to live up in the hills over San Antonio in Ibiza and the sunsets there couldn't be beaten you could see the entire bay out to Cala Gracio and down to Port Des Torrents and the sunsets there were breathtaking. (so much so that I stayed in horrid apartments for an extra year as I didn't want to have to give up the view)!

Banff. On the North east coast of Scotland. In the summer time I have never seen sunsets like it. You also get a good showing of the Northern Lights as well.

My vote is to go to the Island of St. Martin in the French West Indies and stay on Orient Beach. One popular smaller resort on that beach is shown here: http://www.alamanda-resort.com/msie4.htm...
It is a relatively casual resort within a few footsteps of a wonderful beach. The beach is topless but only a half mile walk to a totally nude portion of the beach. Very quiet compared to a lot of beaches, hardly any noise pollution like radios. Lots of couples on honeymoons etc. I went for 10 consecutive nights in late April and Early May and it was FANtasTIC. One of the best times to go they say is November to January or April and May. Avoid July-October cuz of Hurricane season. Another great thing is that St. Martin is only a 2 hour boat trip to St. Barth which is a good side trip. St. martin is half Dutch heritage and half French. The Dutch side is noisy with casinos and the French side is quieter with fine cousine and pristine beaches. A number of airlines fly there including US Air which goes direct from Charlotte. Take passports for sure you will need them. People are very friendly. Rental cars are inexpensive and you can get all inclusive insurance for a small amount.
