Prenatal vitamins are formulated specifically for pregnant women to support a healthy baby. There is too much iron in them for a non pregnant woman, and they can make you sick

If you want hair to grow faster, you have to take supplements that work on your body chemistry to support hair's growth and strength at its genesis.....once it has grown out, it is just dead keratin
Try GNC, they make a supplement called "Nourishair" in formulas for men and women..they are HUGE pills and you have to take 2 daily. There is also a "Hair skin and nails" formula from Andrew Lessman that you can google, that has great ingredients and is easier to swallow, made by ProCaps labs. You can also take large doses of Biotin, sometimes called Vitamin H, take no less than 2500 micrograms daily to support healthy hair growth.

You're not too young for prenatal vitamins--all they are is vitamins essential to a female's health. However you can take a vitamin called biotin and get all of the benefits of prenatal vitamins without the other stuff. I believe they sell this at Walmart under a brand called Hair, Skin, and Nails. Olive oil will only clog your follicles and make your hair grow slower. Other ways to grow your hair faster is a scalp massage which stimulates blood flow, as well as brushing your hair with natural bristle brush BEFORE getting in the shower. Be sure not to use hair spray or other styling products in excess and get a good shampoo and conditioner like Bedhead. Also don't forget to get a trim every 2-3 months of about 1/4-1/2 an inch. Split ends continue to split if they're not trimmed. Hair grows about 6 inches a year naturally but this can maximize growth.

Prenatal vitamins will help your hair grow healthier but not faster. Hair grows about half an inch a month with or without the vitamins. Good luck

have always had very weak nails. My hair grows at a normal rate. I took prenatal vitamins from January to August with no change at all on hair or nail growth. I finally was able to get pregnant in August (this was 3 yrs ago). From the 2nd month of pregnancy I could see how my hair was not only growing fast but super shinny and strong. It looked really beautiful. My nails were made of steel, lol, long beautiful and strong. Two months after I gave birth, my nails already started getting weak and my hair was no longer growing fast. I would say 6 months later I notices my hair was no longer shinny. Mind you I kep taking pre-natal vitamins throughout my pregnancy and for 24 months after giving birth because I was breastfeading. So, I can tell you it is not the vitamins, its the hormones that your body produces during pregnancy.
I liked the prenatal vitamins from GNC becasue they were not so strong on my stomach and not too expensive.

The hormone in pregnant women is what makes their hair and nails grow not the vitamin. Prenatal vitamins run anywhere from 6 dollars and up, purchase the least expensive vitamin made available to you.
The FDA requires that prenatal vitamins all have the EXACT ingredients. There is no difference between the generic and the pricey version.

Just take a multi daily vitamin. It will make your hair healthier but it will not make it grow anymore than it is supposed to. Just to let you know, because I read this in one of your answers, hair does not grow about an inch a month! If it did we'd all be happy and there wouldn't be questions like this out there. So if you are wanting your hair to grow out, keep it trimmed up, tell stylist bare ends only, and take a multi vitamin.

Hair loss or baldness is caused mainly due to the lack of Vitamin B supplements. Vitamin B5 contains pantothenic acid and B3 (niacin that is vital for hair growth). B6 is equally important to the body, as it contains the nutrients of zinc, sulfur, magnesium and biotin.

An interesting fact about Vitamin B: Certain experiments were conducted with rats and they were fed with food that lacked magnesium supplements. It was found that they lost their hair in bunches and when they were provided with a low biotin diet they turned hairless. But to the surprise of all, their hair returned when they were fed with food rich in Vitamin B. Similar studies were conducted on men and it was found that Vitamin B enriches the quality of hair. The body also requires Vitamin A. Fatty acids such as primrose oil, flaxseed oil or salmon oil need to be consumed for enhancing hair growth.

Vitamin E is meant for stimulating the oxygen intake in the body and improves the blood circulation. If there is proper blood circulation, hair growth is enhanced. Vitamin C assists the normal functioning of capillaries that carries the blood to the scalp. Even zinc is an important supplement, which should be consumed as it assists hair growth.

Biotin is necessary for hair growth. There are many sources of biotin such as brewer's yeast, brown rice, bulgur, green peas, lentils, oats, soybeans, sunflower seeds, and walnuts. It is present in some shampoos, so you can use shampoos, which contain biotin. It is advised to consult a physician before taking any vitamins or medications for hair growth.
