Vinegar and warm water, 80 % vinegar 20% warm water, apply with a trigger sprayer until area is well saturated. Let area dry on its own(no fans or excessive towel drying.) Repeat process if necessary, if slight odor remains then you may have a padding issue. If so if area of odor is close to a wall, pull the carpet back until you see the yellow stian on the backing of the carpet, spray the back of the carpet as the top this time you will want to towel dry, to help pull odor out. Cut the pad area out in the same area as the stain, spray solution on concrete or wood flooring, then towel the area dry. You can replace the pad at your hardware store, very inexspensive. If there is any yellowing from the oringal stains and after you neutralized the odor with the vinegar solution, hydrogen peroxide 50/50 dilution ratio with warm water will restore the color alteration may need to repeat until area is gone. In areas closer to the middle of room you can inject the padding through the carpet with a poultry/ meat flavor injector with pure vinegar until the area of a 1 foot square has been injected 6 times(example). The acidity of the strong 80/20vinegar dilution will neutralize the old but weaker cat urine acid.

when you finish with an old plastic spray cleaning bottle, you know Mr Muscle or something like that, clean out with cold water
and put 5 or 6 tablespoons of vinegar in the bottle. Top it up with water until full and add one squirt of dish washer cleaning fluid screw spray on and simply squirt on to the area. You may have to do this several times.
Arilly666 is right if you can lift the carpet and clean the surface this would be a good idea. Aproffesional clean would do the trick it depends on your finances. Although you can hire a carpet cleaner for about £30.

nothing will turn that around completely except a new carpet
but some use suction with sundry urine products or white vinegar and it usually goes through the material into the floor beneath so the carpet must be pulled up and done underneath
also some inject enzymes into the carpet and on through this can cause more damage then a new carpet cost for discoloring u can bleach the spots an redye but it seldom will match even if done by a professional ......... my experience dictates buy new and keep the animals away .... sorry !

the only way to get rid of the smell is to rip up the carpet and padding since that's where the smell settles. I had the same problem and nothing else worked. Sprays and treatments only push the urine deeper into the padding and when they dry the smell comes back. That's how wild cats know their in each others territory, that smell never goes totally away.

Hi there...consider using Nature's Miracle (available worldwide at any pet store). It's an enzymatic neutralizer which lifts the urine odours by thoroughly soaking the affected area to let air dry. Repeated applications may be necessary depending on how heavily soiled the area is.

Here's a photo to help you recognize the product on the store shelves: http://www.petsmart.com/media/ps/images/products/detail/large/June05/lg_50648_47f09.jpg

Have you tried "urine-b-gone"? Its one of those "as seen on tv" products, but its designed for that. Also, if available, you can shampoo the room with a pet-odor eliminator. Baking soda is also a natural deodorizer. You may find more items for odor removal in the pet section.

If it's a white or light colored carpet try wetting the stains and sprinkling plain salt on it, a heavy layer. The salt absorbs.

I hate to say this but the carpet is gonna have to be torn up and some new carpet laid. Cat pee-pee is one of the worst odors to cover up...nothing disguises it
