+ Purgatory +

Are you perfect now? Most people would say no.

Will you be perfect in heaven? Most people believe yes.

Purgatory (or purgation) is the process of God's love changing our imperfect selves into perfect beings.

Depending on the amount of change needed by different people this can be an easy or slightly harder process.

Everyone in purgatory is on their way to heaven.

I don't think Mother Teresa of Calcutta had a very hard time of it.

+ Limbo +

Jesus said, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved." (Mark 16:15-16)

For centuries, people have wondered about children who died before they were baptized.

Limbo was suggested as the place where unbaptized babies went when they died. This idea was never official Church doctrine and has be rejected.

The Church now says that it is not sure what happens to unbaptized babies when they die but she entrusts them to the mercy of God.

There is not much difference between purgatory and Limbo, except when traveling on Hells Highway, Purgatory is on the left just past the lake of fire and Limbo is about a mile or two up the road next to Hells Kitchen.

They are in theory the same place but Limbo isn't used anymore to describe the place. And You DO NOT go to either heaven or hell from Purgatory.

Everyone who goes to Purgatory will eventually go to Heaven. If you die in Mortal sin you go straight to Hell. Purgatory is not a "2nd Chance" but a purging of any venial sin prior to going into the presence of God.

There sure are a lot of people here telling what it is that have no idea of what they're talking about....amazing.

This is the catholic version- but both words have other meanings
LIMBO- a place where the souls of the unbaptized go
PURGATORY- Where the souls of people who have venial sins go.
----------------------
The concept of limbo was never really accepted by the catholic church because it believed in the innocence of the infants soul.
---
Before he died Pope John Paul asked an international theologians commision to come up with "a more coherent and enlightened way" of describing the fate of babies who deserve neither heaven or hell. The former head of the commission was Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger who is now Pope; The commission, now under the leadership of Archbishop William Levada, is meeting behind closed doors and may make its recommendation soon.
This was last year. One of the answers to your post said that Pope Benedict already recommended the removal of Limbo from cathechism recently.

The Bible doesn't mention such a place as purgatory as it is an "invention" of the Catholic Church. "Limbo" doesn't appear any where in the Bible. It behooves me that there are so many Bibles in the world and so few people who will read one. The Bible actually demonstrated that the Lord will destroy the Catholic Church during the tribulation as he has pronounce judgment on it, read Revelations CH.17 V1-9

Different religions have different definitions for their words. Catholics believe that their is a "Purgatory", but not a limbo. So each to his own.

Limbo is a state of being for those infants who have died without being Baptized and the faithful departed before the redemption of Christ. This is a common teaching but not part of the deposit of faith.

Purgatory is a state of punishment where souls of those who have died with unrepented venial sin on their soul. It is a place of suffering until admitted into heaven. We must be clean of all sin before entering heaven. Rv 21:27, speaking of heaven, states "nothing unclean will enter it".

Purgatory is a place where the ones awaiting judgement are. It's a place of torture. Mainy of those who're yet to be saved end up there while awaiting judgement. Those who're defended by Jesus and saved go onto heaven. Those who aren't, go to hell.
