Words can hurt just as bad as being slapped! Honestly, I usually feel sorta sorry for someone who always says hurtful things....I pray that God will remove the torment from their life. They can't be very happy if they're so mean and negative all the time. I try to believe that people wouldn't be so nasty if they realized how bad it makes THEM feel, in reality. Best you can do is let it roll off....you're better than that.

Confront the person and politely ask him or her to be more specific. That usually shuts them up pretty quickly. Its a matter of self-empowerment. By holding the other accountable for his or her words, you are sending out a message that you are not the kind of person to be used as a doormat. As a result, the other will think twice in the future before bad-mouthing you again, and you will feel much better. Guaranteed!

People say nasty things to you probably because they are either annoyed by something and vent it on you, or it's something they don't like about you.
Perhaps you can take note of what they say or try to find out why they said those words. If it's something you can change, try changing. Work on it and stop them from saying any more bad things to you.

It always hurts when someone says or does something nasty about or to you.
I think it is important to remember to know that it is THEM who have to live that way & think those nasty thoughts, not you. They must be very insecure within themselves to make others feel down, it takes the focus off them.
Its petty jealousy & very immature & to be honest, there really isnt a way to combat it, as I said, it is them who are like that.
Just know in your own self that you are not this way & be gratefull for that!!
Happy days to you :o)

I think everyone gets hurt when people are nasty. Everyone gets upset to some degree, if I was you I would question them back. If someone says for example 'sarah said you are fat' then I would go to sarah and say 'did you say I was fat?'. Trust me, people shut up when you start questioning them, watch how quickly they deny it and then they wont say anything against you anymore as they know you will approach them - and thats too risky, they would rather intimidate a mouse who will take it and whimper.

I suggest you find a different group of people to spend your time with. I can't think of why anyone would regularly hear hurtful things unless they spend a lot of time with people who don't have the sense or manners to speak to them appropriately. If this is something you're experiencing at work, it is called harassment, and you'd have a good case to take to a lawyer.

words always hurt, just try to shake it off by thinking "i could say the same thing about you" or "sticks and stones can breaks my bones but words can never harm me" just remember that you are better than them because most of the time people only put others down to make themselves feel better

Try to think what the person says is not true (not just 'woruds don't hurt"), then ignore the person to the point of pretending that person doesn't exist, though physically react if the person physically harms you.

Words always hurt....they have the same power as a punch, one in physical and the other is mental.

i wish i could help you, but i know exactly where you are coming from. my usual reaction is anger, but i know that that is not a good thing.i suppose that if we could bring ourselves to believe, then with enough reapitition, we would come to believe that "words don't hurt"
