has anyone ever been on this for acne? If so how long did you have to stay on it before you could go off?

I work in the medical field, and I have NEVER seen Amoxicillin prescribed for acne. It's already an OVERUSED anti-biotic for throat/ear/sinus infections. . .almost to the point that people are becoming immune to it. Enough of that.

An antibiotic that I most commonly see prescribed is:
Tetracycline (Minocycline), it's strong, and it can do a number on your stomach but some are willing to put up with it.

I would avoid starting on antibiotics, remember your body will eventually become immune to it and they will not work anymore, and you will have to find a different antibiotic and go through a whole new process. I myself, had terrible acne, I THOUGHT that my diet was good, but I have completely cut out ALL fast food, I mean ALL of it, and look. . . my acne is gone.

Yes amoxicillin is a type of penicillin. Read the web page given to make sure your fine to take it but your doctor should have asked this before it was prescribed, still no harm in checking just in case.

Not for acne, but for strep throat. I was on it for about 10 days, but felt better way before then.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amoxicillin

Look at the GSK "Amoxil" link towards the end, and you can link to a PDF booklet that tells you the treatment course.
