That's not true. I am a muslim and i have lots of christian friends.
In Fact, my brother's wife is xtian as well. I don't have yet jew friends since we don't have any in Lebanon but i don't mind having. Friendship is not related to religion, it is related to common things in day-2-day life. In Lebanon, 1/2 of the population is muslim and 1/2 christian! I never ask for the religion before i start dating or having friends, religion is between yourself and mighty god. The 3 religions believes in one mighty god but the difference is between some details.
I really don't know from where you got the "surah" but i've never heard it; and in case it s there, i am not with.

Which Jews and Christians we do not befriend

[5:57] O you who believe, do not befriend those among the recipients of previous scripture who mock and ridicule your religion, nor shall you befriend the disbelievers. You shall reverence GOD, if you are really believers.

Which Jews and Christians we do befriend

[3:113] They are not all the same; among the followers of the scripture, there are those who are righteous. They recite GOD's revelations through the night, and they fall prostrate.

[3:114] They believe in GOD and the Last Day, they advocate righteousness and forbid evil, and they hasten to do righteous works. These are the righteous.

[3:115] Any good they do will not go unrewarded. GOD is fully aware of the righteous.

The Real Family Believers , People who believe in a higher power and the next life are considered believers in Islam

[49:10] The believers are members of one family; you shall keep the peace within your family and reverence GOD, that you may attain mercy.

The Believers. A universal brotherhood.

[9:112] They are the repenters, the worshipers, the praisers, the meditators, the bowing and prostrating, the advocators of righteousness and forbidders of evil, and the keepers of GOD's laws. Give good news to such believers.

You intentionaly forgot to quat verses before 5:51 and after 5:51.
In which Allah explained first that Allah has sent Moses and Jesus (Peace and blessings of God be upon them), with massage of AlamightyGod, but they ignored and rejected Prophets so do not make friends those unbeleivers. And do trust those unbeleivers becaus they even diobayed their Prophets.

My dear freind follow Moses and Jesus (pbu.them) with sincerity and accept Islam becaus Comming of Muhammad has been indicated in Old tetament and by Jsus( pbuh) as well.
Do not create deferences among people try to reduce gaps.

Hindus and Sikhs have had countless disorders with Islam ago. I endorse you study this, you'll be extra accustomed to the challenge. Also, Sikhism believes everybody is same. No gender discrimination. However, within the Qu'ran (Islam) it says that females have got to obey guys. Both religions contradict every different. The Guru Granth Sahib (Sikhism) allows Sikhs to marry any one, in view that it believes everybody is same. However, the Qu'ran forbids it. The Sikh society dis encourages this considering marrying a Muslim boy calls for you to transform to Islam. The Sikh society does now not like this considering Islam is dependable for a quantity of Sikh deaths. Sikhism and Islam contradict every different. I'm now not too certain approximately Hinduism. But I'm assuming a identical trouble. Good Luck with that, If it is real love make the leap! If he relatively loves your pal he'll marry her.

The reason for not taking Christians and Jews as friends is further explained below
"O ye who believe! take not for friends and protectors those who take your religion for a mockery or sport,- whether among those who received the Scripture before you, or among those who reject Faith; but fear ye Allah, if ye have faith (indeed). " Quran 5: 57.

For the rest of the non-muslims who do not harass muslims because of their religion, Quran does not forbid having a good relationship with them
"60: 8. Allah does not forbid you respecting those who have not made war against you on account of (your) religion, and have not driven you forth from your homes, that you show them kindness and deal with them justly; surely Allah loves the doers of justice."

Search For: 5 - English / Muhammad Asad

5:1 O YOU who have attained to faith! Be true to your covenants!
....
5:51 O YOU who have attained to faith! Do not take the Jews and the Christians for your allies: they are but allies of one another and whoever of you allies himself with them becomes, verily, one of them; behold, God does not guide such evildoers.

Note the phrase "attained to faith" and the word "covenants". More so, note the word "allies". The prophet (saas) wrote in Arabic not English and the translation sometimes loses the full meeting. I gave you three key phrases that captures (although poorly) was the prophet was saying.

Next time you quote, start with the Arabic first, and the English second.

Salla Allahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam (Arabic: may the blessing and the peace of Allah be upon him)

Yes, and the reason is they are friends and protectors of each other. There is no way Muslims can count on a non-Muslim to protect them. That would be foolish. Allah says they will betray us if taken into our intimacy.

So.. it just saying that we should not let the non-Muslim to lead us because they don't know about Islam teaching. :)

Like in the sense of leadership. Our leader is our protector. So, like in leading a muslim country, we shouldn't let the non-muslim to lead us.

We can still be friends or family with others even the non-Muslim.
