Simply becuase he was a human creation, developed during a time when men were the dominant gender of the civilisation. Indeed many scholars believe "God" was actually the term for "king" during that time in history. Indeed many kings had god like powers, the ability to damn people to hell if they didn't follow the law so to speak.

Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Certainly in this verse the description of God with humanity is established. But wait.

Psalm 91:4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth [shall be thy] shield and buckler.

Now He's a chicken!!! No Wait.

Ezekiel 8:2 Then I beheld, and lo a likeness as the appearance of fire: from the appearance of his loins even downward, fire; and from his loins even upward, as the appearance of brightness, as the colour of amber.

Now He's a fire. Then again,

John 4:24 God [is] a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship [him] in spirit and in truth.

Now He's a Spirit. Does that mean He's a fig newton of our imagination?

Well, I may have gone beyond the bounds of propriety, but I think you get the picture and if you don't its this: Our finite minds cannot put an infinite God in a box.

I Cr 13;8a, Love never fails!!!!!

Because the bible tells us that God created us in His own image, therefore reasonable deduction would be that He has human attributes.

Well, we display the same emotions that GOD does. Anger, love, happiness, sadness, impatience, jealousy, blessings, etc etc. This is where we get OUR attributes from. This is the "image" of GOD that we were created in, "after HIS likeness".

Because God was created by ancient men who were very ignorant. They had no other references to choose from, they didn't want to make Him a Water Buffalo.
