Many reasons. They are uninformed from birth and never use critical thinking to check into what they have been brainwashed to believe.
Also, people DESIRE and WISH TO give up their power to someone else. Be it a government, a spouse, or a deity. It is that people do not want personal responsibility or they don't want to be individual. There is the herd mentality. The need of the body to conform and take the easy, mindless route.
It is that people are easily duped and easily give up their uniqueness in the shaky deal that they may find peace in the crowd; at whatever cost, even if that is a false religion based upon another false religion.
People are sheeple.

Because those who are inventing them are running out of ideas in their little minds. Existing religions, we may call them modern religions as opposed to the say, ancient Egyptian and other ancient beliefs that developed naturally, are a means of manipulating the masses. Christianity more so than any other. The Christian church was, throughout the history of its existence, the most brutal power, killing not just its opponents, but its own followers, based on whims. Such examples are the inquisition and the annihilation of the Cathars.
None of the existing religions is knowledge coming directly from God. That is the reason why they regurgitate ideas.
Read "Rational Spirituality" on the Dhaxem website. It is fast growing knowledge about God and the Universe followed by the thinking people. Although only conveyed in February 2006, it is already a force, and sooner than you believe, it will replace the religions with the sheer power of its logical argument.
Rational Spirituality is completely different, because it is genuine, coming from the Source.
Enjoy reading it.

Most religions have a foundation in an earlier religion, but changes in beliefs, interpretations, and political reasons are some that cause new religions to come forth. However, they have similar or "stolen" beliefs because they have those certain basic fundamentals that they want to believe are theirs only.

Most religions are founded on the belief system of whoever was the winner of a war. It depends on who is is power. Then the folks that are in power try to change the losers to be the winner religion. For instance, when the Christians came into power, they took their religion and allowed the losers to incorporate their religion into the Christian religion. For instance, a lot of holidays are really pagan holidays that have been Christianized ie Christmas, Halloween, Easter, etc. Even the days of the week names and the months names are Christianized pagan names. It is the way of things and of power. But, doesn't it seem ironic that their religion was pagainized?

In the case of Christians, they pattern their beliefs after Christ's teachings. Christ lived in the past. As for "stolen" belief, it is more traditional - passed down through generations. If you put up a Christmas tree this year, are you "stealing" that idea from somebody,or are you following tradition and what you have learned? And will generations after us be doing it?

It is easier to do so than scrap the whole thing to see where they went wrong and restart a new one.
Restarting Christianity as an continuation of Judaism without the additions that were added to try and draw other religions into converting to Christianity would leave a very large hole that would be difficult to fill without reverting to a form of Judaism.

I've seen people deny those very same religions did take anything from the religions of the past. Seems foolish.

Becasuse they have nothing else in their lives to believe in. No great love of something to do with their lives, so they turn to Religion. It is an opiate to many people who could not live without it.
People are forever creating gods and endowing them with powers, that they themselves do not posess.
It is a sickness that is bred into too many people.

Not sure what you mean specifically, but religion had to start somewhere. And as far as I know, christianity is the only religion where a man died for our sins.

Is it possible that the source is ONE, and what you call religions that copy previous ones are really different stages of an evolving message?
There are other ways and possibly more feasible ways of seeing the issue, you know!
