Who else thinks it is rude, misplaced and vagely sinister that many Christians hand out religous tracts to childeren on Halloween, who may or may not be Christian? You dont see Muslims, Pagans or Jewish people do this....
Let me eleaborate, I have never personally seen pagans, jewish or muslim people do this, and it is an honest question, why beacuse I think it is rude to do this to impressionable childeren, whom's parents dont nessicaily want them to hear what they might believe are lies or false religious ideas. It is not a complaint.

And NO Pagans DO NOT run around trying to "recruit" people to our belief, it is agenst our very tenets.

I am sorry about my spelling, It was a 4 am, and I am not just b!tching. I want to know why people feel justified to talk to other people's childeren about a religion they may or may not follow. Is it not enough to preach to your own? Didn't Jesus mention something about "..Not cast your pearls befor swine.." as in don't preach to the outsiders?

I think it is extremely presumptious that they do that. I feel that these things should NOT go into Halloween bags, much less anything else. It is a violation and a disrespect to have these things thrust at you, especially when you do not share these views. And no, I have never seen any other religious group do this except for Christian denominations. It's like that bumpersticker I see sometimes- "I'm not perfect, but I'm forgiven" I mean, how arrogant is that?? I happen to not be a Christian, but I admire the teachings of Christ and have my own personal and special connection to him. I don't think that Christ would like for his followers to be as judgemental and condemning as some of them can be. I believe everyone should have the right to experience their spirituality in any form, as long as it harms none and I don't think that people who don't share my personal beliefs are wrong- they are just experiencing it in their individual way, same as I am. Anyways, I concur. It's something that should not be done at any time, and certainly not during such a special time for children. When it happens to us, it is upsetting to my family and I feel sure it is upsetting to many other families as well.

The people who hand out tracts like that are the same people who would be outraged (and rightly so) if people handed out little booklets advocating something they didn't approve of. Certainly, other religions would get under their skin, but think, for a moment, of something a bit more... risque. Imagine someone who felt that the biggest issue facing kids was teenage pregnancy - and so handed out condoms and sex-ed pamphlets to the trick-or-treaters.

While that's a bit of an exaggeration (at least, I hope it is), it illustrates that there are some things that, while perhaps important to some people, don't necessarily apply. Halloween is not the time or place, and, frankly, someone else's kids are *not* who you should be approaching. Quite honestly, I consider evangelizing kids, sans parental consent, to not only be unethical, but borderline criminal. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if someone could make a case for a lawsuit in a situation like that.

So what if someone wants to pass out information about their religion. You have a choice to either make an issue out of it (like you're doing here) or simply do the adult thing and ignore it. Toss it into the garbage like you would candy that has been opened or obviously tampered with. And as a Pagan myself I find it horrific that you can't at least spell.

do your kids actually know what halloween is or ,like mine,is it a welcome break from routine where they get to dress up pretty or scary and have fun with the family and their friends,,,they are kids and to be slipping in religious tracts into their bags is wrong,,they dont care about the religious aspect just as they dont really care whether or not santa comes,,if there are presents at the bottom of the tree, they,re happy.RUDE,,,,i would be knocking on doors handing them back,,,,,ruining childrens fun because you dont agree with what they and their parents are doing is downright cheeky.miserable buggers lol

First off..Hurah. I am glad that someone else is as outraged as i am about this!
I think that to stuff your beliefs down the throats of others should be a hanging offense!
Now can we change the basis of this country from "Freedom OF Religion" to "Freedom FROM Religion"?
PS
To all those "right thinking" toons in tv land...
Please do NOT pray for me,,,and in return I promise not to pay to have a jinx placed on you!
Grinz
Hugs to ya for such a great question!

Because many christians misinterpret their bible to mean that they're supposed to go out and impose their beliefs on everyone else in order to convert them. They don't have respect for the beliefs of others, just their own. When my son got that nonsense in his Halloween bag, we just had a good laugh over it and threw it away.

I think it is a great ideal to do. Perhaps this Holloween I will do the same. Thanks. Religion tracts do not recruit people to no denomination only get one to know about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
