I miscarried over ten years ago; I was only 18 and was relieved to not be pregnant anymore. But recently, I've started having realistic, very sad dreams about losing a child. Sometimes it's a miscarriage, sometimes it's a stillbirth, sometimes it's a live child that disappears. I am usually holding my belly with my hands, as though that will help hang on to the pregnancy.

Has this happened to anyone else? I am single, not married and no kids yet. Why would these dreams be coming now? Should I consider therapy?

Maybe the dreams are because you didn't really deal with your feelings at the time. I have lost 3 babies due to early miscarriage and sometimes dream about what they would be like now...oldest would have been 4 years-old. I also almost lost my son due to premature birth at 29 weeks, but he is now a healthy 2 year-old. I recently also lost a baby girl at 21 weeks. Could it be that since you are getting older you are wanting to start a family now?

I found this on this site

http://www.dreammoods.com/dreamdictionary/b.htm

To see a baby in your dream, signifies innocence, warmth and new beginnings. Babies may symbolize something in your own inner nature which is pure, vulnerable, and/or uncorrupted. Babies may represent an aspect of yourself that is vulnerable and helpless. If you dream that you forgot you had a baby, then it suggests that you are trying hide your own vulnerabilities; You do not want to let others know of your weaknesses.

There is more so have a read... if you believe in dream interpretation the actual images you see don't necessarily indicate that the dreams have anything to do with them.
eg: death in most dreams and superstitions actually means the end of a relationship or the end of a phase in your life..etc....

But if you feel like you need to discuss this with someone because of that miscarriage it wont hurt to go to a councilor.

Goodluck

Always consider therapy after a loss like that. It may have been a relief, but there will always be fears that you might not be able to conceive at a later date when you would like to. Perhaps it's that fear that drives those dreams now.

I don't think its about the miscarriage ,are you worried running out of time to have kids ,or did you have a trauma in your childhood that you need to deal with.I think its more likely about the loss of your not having kids ,you are not too old yet but it might be playing on your mind.

Dreams reveal what is in your subconscious, basically what you are thinking about that you had no idea you were thinking about, therapy might be a good idea, perhaps you have some underlying issues you didn't know about that need to be dealt with.

I had a miscarriage when I was 20 and had a couple nightmares. It was mostly just cuz I was stressed out, they went away on their own.

Also try not to eat before bed, it makes you have nightmares!
