Chinese citizenship is restricted to people who have two simultaneous characteristics:
* were born in China of Chinese native parents
* parents were born in China of native Chinese parents

Confusion arises when we find that Chinese passport can be issued to someone who marries a Chinese citizen. This is true but it is not related to citizenship. No social services, old age medical care, pension from workplace or other privileges of citizenship are available to someone who marries a Chinese.

There is no exact equivalent to a "green card" in China. I have a Chinese residence permit and a Foreign Experts Certificate that allows me one year work permit renewable indefinitely. But it will never get me close to citizenship or permanent residency. It will always be renewable one year at a time.

The fastest way would be to marry a Chinese of cos. But, I'm just dead curious, why in the world would you wanna be a Chinese citizen? Many Chinese are trying to get outta there man.

No offence, I'm a Chinese myself, (Chinese as in my race is Chinese, not that I'm from China) just find it real odd.

Anyway, since China has such a big population. Getting a partner there should be easy peasy right? Lol.

if you are not a chinese a descent, obtaining a chinese citizenship is not possible. even if you are maried to a chinese citizen, you will only be granted permanent residence permit or chinese greencard, afar from that no more....

if you desire a chinese greencard, here are the possibilities:

1..... if you can prove that you are of chinese descent, have chinese blood, ie. grandpa is chinese.
2..... if you have made a distinct or valuable contribution to the chinese society, ie. 10 years voluntary service in a chinese orphanage
3......if you have an invest in mainland china of up to 8 million RMB. or more
4......if you can prove that you have worked in china for four consecutive years without any trouble with any of their "authorities," and you do have a stable source of income, and a generous enough employer to say he will continue to provide you a job for the next four years
5......if you mary a chinese citizen
