Sad but true, we as Americans have bought into the hype that more is better. More means we are cooler, richer, have status and it has spilled over into our eating habits. We eat out more often, eat fattier foods and extremely large portions. PLUS we as a country have stopped moving. The combination has made us the laughing stock of all nations. I took a nutrition class a few semesters ago and boy was I surprised. We eat way too much. I started watching my intake and what I was in-taking and lost 10 pounds without even trying. I don't starve myself, I just try to eat healthier. When I also learned that exercise would also help my body life longer and "run" better, I have lost more inches, notice I didn't say weight. My muscles are toned, I sleep better and have tons more energy. I have never felt better in my life and I am in the best shape. So I say wake up America and drop the Starbucks (please forgive me I didn't mean it) and do something about it.

Yes, America is the fattest country. Look at the population and you will see why. The news reported there are over 300 million people and that is just a rough guess. Too many people and way too much fat.

If you travel outside of the US, you'll notice that most people are slender and a smaller size in general. Even in Canada, the average person is much smaller and it has a lot to do with the portions served at restaurants and fast food joints. Also, going out to eat costs quite a bit more in Canada.
In addition, food is very cheap all over the US, whether it's a sit-down restaurant, fast food joint or grocery store. Every time I travel outside of the US and come home, I'm struck immediately by how downright humongous Americans have become. They're not just fat/overweight, they're just gigantic-- big beefy arms, bulbous thighs, legs and butts, ginormous heads, protruding bellies...we're a fat nation in desperate need of a massive lifestyle change!

YES. After spending a lot of time abroad and then visiting the U.S. this past summer I could not believe the portions!!! The small was way large enough for me.

Well, actually, surprisingly, a lot of the so-called "Developing Countries" also have the "Fat" problem.
Look at the number of fat people in African Countries that are really backward! Try Pakistan and India! Or, for that matter the Middle East and the Far East!
You'll be surprised to see the number of ... not plump, not well-built, not just amply padded ... but FAT people you see there!
In fact, Fat Farms and liposuction are very much "In" there, nowadays!
Percentagewise, Americans are more health concious than their developing neighbors, who love their fattening foods and sedentary lifestyles!
The laughing China may do well to take a good look in her own backyard and see the monosodium glutamated fatties there.
So I guess we can forget about the Fat American and look at the Fat Asian or Fat Arab or Fat African, nowadays.

I think that because of our rules and way of life, we have been able to indulge too much. Thats how it is, thats how it will be until we find a reason to change.
