Hi
Ok I asked who thinks there are too many out here asking etc.. a few minutes ago.... so far great response.

First.. I am a retired Trauma Nurse, I also have a Zoology degree, work in Wildlife rescue, conservation and manage urban waterfowl
I am obtaining a wildlife Vet degree as well.

I understand how important it is for folks who do not know to have a place to go ask and for folks who do know to take a sec and answer.. I guess I am only frustrated in what I read so much of.. and you cant answer them all and you never heaer back from most as to the outcome of what ended up happening...

My question should have been... anyone else frustrated??? I certainly do not want people not coming out asking and just leaving an animal suffer ..

No offesne was meant at all.. just looking for others who are frustrated is all!
:0)
Thanks
Wismom

Hi there...sadly there are too many people who post questions here on the pet forums seeking free advice without realizing that somone can supply bad information or worse prank them which can even do more harm. Especially, when it comes to medical advice which always should never be dispensed without the animal being seen by a licenced Veterinarian since too many variables are involved which require questioning and tests to diagnose the illness.

Animal care is a long-term financial and emotional responsibility for those of us who understand this well and respond as such. Unfortunately the public's perception is skewed when there are many free pets given away or found so therefore why bother expending the energy to "pay" for something that was free... Sad but so often times this is the case.

Anyhow, when I answer these type of questions I supply supporting documentative sources when sharing any information and if it's medically related "ask" them to consider ringing the vet to see if a visit is required--give them options rather than make a demand. Dealing with human nature we have to remember most people are unwilling to accept demands so the best we can offer is GIVE supportive sources from the Internet in hopes they will educate themselves by reading these realizing that their pet animals require medical care and no home care is going to resolve the situation of concern.

This is truly the best we can give of ourselves ...those of us who are qualified to answer and not be critical of those who do not know what they are recommending even if it's well-meaning. I even at times will state to the person asking the question that people in Yahoo Answers may not know what's best so it's best to ring a vet to allay their doubts just to be sure.

There are plenty of young people here in the forums so anyone could offer an answer whether it's sound or not.

I hope this will help so you can actively participate here knowing you are doing your best and hope for the best.

EDIT: I also try to remember to never assume anything since each question may be always missing some important aspects of pertinent information as well. By trying to remember this it makes answering more objective rather than emotional.

Your question sounded circular to me, but the clue in a few words that I got from it said "are you frustrated" and "leaving an animal suffer".

I'm in Florida, and the hotlines support is available but when you call them no one is on staff to go help an animal. At least the times I've called. Every once in a while a bird has been shot with an arrow and eventually ends up on tv. Other bad animal abuses are on tv, some people adopt the critter. But sometimes the animal dies and for the very bad abuses it seems no one goes after the abuser. They just go after those who have many pets at home, or things like bird or dog fights, or overcrowded or bankrupt shelters. A big percentage of the animals get put down.
Was that your question?

No, I am not frustrated becuase I have lived long enough to realize that "common sense" isn't really very common. He he he. But seriously, some caring pet guardians who DO know that their cat is sick and who DO know that their best move is to take the cat to the Vet may have many pressing reasons why they cannot do that immediately and hence, are reashing out to the community for home remedies, or waht they can do in the meantime, or just plain reassurance. How can you be frustrated with that? I know that if my cat starts to behave really strangely at 3am - I'd like to reach out to someone out there who may give me a clue as to what's going on as I wait for 8am to take the cat to the vet.

I think i understand the question...

The way i see it, if it a logical, well asked, legit question...they get a logical, legit answer.

Unfortunatly there is the human element here...therefore there are people that asked stupid or inane questions. The deserve to be flamed or ignored upright...depends how i feel.

I hope this helps you with your cat problem. :p
