It says that the holy spirit intercedes for us with groans thant cannot be expressed with words. In what situations does the spirit do that (i know its when we dont know what to pray for, but I mean what TYPE of situations)? Like is it possible for us to be aware of the spirit interceding for us?

It's about the Spirit of God, you and your prayer life.
Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Have you ever got yourself away from EVERYTHING and sat to pray but didn't know what to say? (Hey, That rhymed!)
You sit there and the words just don't come out. Tears can even come to your eyes, or you could just break down and cry. You feel so hopeless, or repentant about something. And the words aren't there. Then you remember that God knows of what you need before you even ask. So in faith you turn your heart to Him, just in your soul you look to Him, your eyes might be on the floor, but there your heart is, turned to Him. And in faith your groanings are heard and understood by Him, you know it.
That's how I see that verse, because I lived it. An will again. When things seem their darkest, and you can't put you finger on it, because you can't see the problem, you just know that you are having one. Your spirit cries to Him, strengthfornow. And He's there already for you, listening!
What a pure and precious moment for you and God. All your defenses are down, along with your pride and self confidence. You and God are having the moment together.
It's like that.

I know precisely what this means. There have been things in my life that were so hard and hurtful, I could not find the words to pray to God about the pain, the desperation, the need that was within me. In those instances, that is when the holy spirit was "interceding" for me, knowing full well what was going on, without my having to speak a word. And yes...I was very aware that God knew everything that was within me, even if I could not find the language to express it.

The Holy Spirit will intercede when you don't know what to pray for and when you don't know a need to pray for. If a friend of yours was getting into a car accident and you didn't know they were, the Holy Spirit would get you to pray for your friends since God sees others needs even when we don't. You would be aware of the Spirit interceding by the intensity of the prayer.

My mother was going out the door when I came over to work in her yard like I do, sometimes.my parents had bought a new 1985 dodge diplomat, Mother was going over to show her friend Becky, her car . she came back. Keith! God saved my life on the way to Becky's house! ow?,hows that? well I was on Laurens road, and I tryed to turn the wheel to get into the middle lane then to turn onto Becky's street and Keith. there was a hand on the wheel! and I tryed to turn the wheel again and it wouldn't let me turn into that lane and then a transfer truck went by in that lane doing fifty. that's what she told me. in Romans some where, it says that it is a sin to doubt, have total faith. I like that, that is a very good thing to realize.to have faith, pure faith.doing so, opens you to the spirit and miracles can take place thru one that has true faith. my mother had such a faith. I miss her so much .

You have problem with your translation. The 'groans thant cannot be expressed with words' is corrected with 'sighs speechless'. Can you see the difference?

Speaking in tongues in your prayer time. It happens all the time if you have the gift of tongues. The Holy Spirit knows what to pray for.

What usually happens is that you will be praying in tongues and not really know why.. Or you will be greatly disturbed about something and not know why.. But you will just keep on praying..
