Buddah wasnt fat he was a skinny monk. the laughing buddah is fat but he isnt the focus of the religion. and the laughing buddah is so fat becasue he is happy have you ever heard of the term "fat and happy" in most asian cultures the larger you are the more respect you get and i think its the same way in this

I've heard that Buddha is portrayed as fat in rejection of the asceticism and self denial he practiced before realizing the true path to nirvana.
Have you tried those new baked Cheetos? They're really quite as good as the other kind, and not as unhealthy; )

Not every Buddha is portrayed in that manner. [My Buddha is thin.] I find that fat Buddhas are a bit hypocritical, as over-eating goes against the key of moderation.

Buddha wasn't fat. Some of the statues are portrayed as fat because they represent prosperity.
