To become a digital photo-retouching artist you need to learn adobe photoshop, you can purchase it from www.adobe.com, also u need a new powerful computer, and of course u need some teaching books, which can be find on www.amazon.com, i found that the series of Martin Evening is the best in the market, search for him on amazon, and get one of his books -according to the version of adobe photoshop u got-.

After u teach ur self, search for a job!! its that easy!
good luck!

Yeap, Eyad's right. Get yourself a Photoshop CS 2. It has quite a few new tools compared to the older versions. Beside's mastering the technical/software skills, its quite important to expose yourself with colors fundamental.

Lastly, perhaps you can get a kickstart somewhere. Good place is the magazine editorial.
