There was a man preaching on the street corner today while I was waiting for the bus. He tried to get my attention and called, "You, Young Man! Young Man! So I just flipped him off and told him to go f himself. The look in his face was one of actual hurt as though I was a member of his family and I hurt his feelings. What's really interesting is I don't really feel bad. If I see him tomorrow, I might just call him worse. What do you think should happen to me?

It's already happening. This was earlier today and you are still dwelling on it.......if it did not bother you, you would have gotten over it by now.....

I'm Christian now, but I'm not going to go into an angry tirade about how you should go to hell. Even if I weren't Christian, I'd say you're being unnecessarily rude; he's just doing something he believes in and is trying to help people more than likely (a rich, money-hoarding priest probably wouldn't be out on the streets preaching). I once made fun of a street preacher and got a similar reaction, though I couldn't help feeling guilty not too long afterward, and I wouldn't do it again.

You don't sound overly nice, but then again it isn't very polite to preach on the street and accost young men either. I can't figure out whether you are bragging or if you are wondering whether you want to handle it differently. You could probably give this person a definite "No" with a nicer attitude, but not if you don't want to. What should happen to you is that you should try to never have to get anyone's attention on the street, because you'll get mad at yourself if someone gives you the finger.

I think you will be judged by God for that and the appropriate judgement given to you. That's what I think what will happen. You are a terrible person. Instead of flipping the man off can't you just kindly say your not interested, or leave me alone. Who is more offense you or the priest. He is out there whether his beliefs are right or wrong is because he believes he has the saving knowledge and because he cares for you soul. He actually cares can you believe that. So why do you have to be a jerk about it????

How sad that you could see you caused another pain and don't care. I pray that God has mercy on you. I also pray that the man who tried to talk to you, that God heal the hurt you caused Him, and that he will be back there on that corner tomorrow, stronger and more in love with the Lord than ever. I also ask that the spirit remind this man of what Jesus said, "blessed are you when people revile you and say all manners of evil against you for my sake...rejoice and be exceeding glad, for great is your reward in heaven".

I'm a Christian, but I have little sympathy for street preachers as they are more or less asking for confrontation. However I don't think you should be ugly to them for no reason. It sounds to me like you have already made up your mind on the subject and don't care about the consequences.

Everyone has to deal with their own conscious, not everyone wants to find out about God by being yelled at, but maybe his convictions is for the souls of people that really do not know what it is like to know Jesus, it is your call, I would ignore him, he is following his conviction and will have to answer to his God when he dies as to why he stood on the corner concerned about a young mans life.

People get offended. It happens. If you set out to do it on purpose, though, you are just being hurtful and selfish. That's exactly why people like him feel the need to be out there, because hateful people are walking around making the world an ugly place.

I think you should go and apologise. Not for WHAT you said, but for HOW you said it. Even if preachers may be rude and imposing, that's no reason for you to be the same. You've lost any right to be treated well, if you can't do the same for others.

And mind you, I'm an unbeliever. And I hate it when an insisting preacher wants to evangelise me. But I 'get rid' of him in a much polite way.

You're obviously bragging. Nest time, Scream at him and call him names. Tell him that the only reason why he preaches in the street is because he's incapable of doing anything else.

I think the best solution would be to ignore him. It's not necessary to insult someone to reject or disagree with their point of view. I have come across this situation many times, and my normal course of action is to continue walking or to simply reply that I'm not interested. Polite, simple, and to the point.
