I'd say that just about any kind of cancer can be painful and certainly some of the treatments and tests that go along with cancer are painful. Pain relief methods vary by patient. It can be anything from local anesthesia to over the counter type drugs to narcotics. Just depends on the patient and the doctors and the particular case, but if a person is in pain and tells the docs so, they'll usually take care of it.

I don't know what the most painful type of cancer is.

They give you morphine to control the pain. The increase the dossage as the cancer progresses.

My grandfather had cancer. They found it in his liver. It spread to his lungs, abodominal cavity, and possibly to his stomach. At one point he told me he could never have fathomed that such a severe pain could exist. About 5 weeks later and furthor into the morphine dossages he told me, "Do you remember when I told you a few weeks ago that I couldn't have fathomed that such sever pain could exist? Well, that was nothing compared to what I'm feeling now."

So, I don't know how well morphine actually works. The more morphine they take the less responsive they become. They are 'doped up' all of the time.

Subsys is what you do for the Pain, nothing treats pain like Subsys. I have had it and I know. Cancer pain is awful to say the least but this medication is a godsend. Ask your pysician about Susys. Its a spray under the tounge and the releif is almost instant! If they are giving your loved ones anything else then they should be fired or so ashamed that they do not know what they are doing and they should quit. Its better than morhine or percocet or dauladid, because it works faster and it kills the pain. Im sorry that your loved ones have to endure this unbareable pain. It breaks my heart, god bless.

It really depends on the type of cancer, and where it is. Some people don't even know it's there until it has spread to different organs, and sometimes they feel it right away. Cancer is essentially mutated cells, that grow irregularly. So, the pain is usually due to pressure on certain nerves, or organs that may be displaced, or compromised by the mutated (cancer) cells. Cancer in your bones is suppose to be one of the most painful types of cancer...and is also terminal.

My mother has breast cancer which spread to her plura (lung lining) and then to her bones. It has been 2 years since we confirmed the spread to the bones.

She was one of the toughest people anyone could ever meet but the cancer has changed her and the pain is very intense. She takes morphine and tranquilizer/sedatives. As time progresses, her pain increases and the meds are not as effective. It is a terrible thing to witness.

I have also heard that once it's in your bones you generally only can survive a few years.
