the "old law" is the mosaic laws of the jews which we still follow.
the "new law" is when jesus said not to worry about the other laws, and just to love G-d and people.
yes, people knew them before he came, the teachings of jesus were nothing really new or revolutionary at the time.
EDIT
"Jesus never said "not to worry" about Mosiac laws. What Jesus taught was that He was the fulfillment of the law.
same difference.
When the Pharisees tried to trap Jesus, asking Him what the most important law was, He replied, "love the Lord your God will all your heart, soul and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself"
like i said, nothing new and revolutionary.
"No one can keep the law, that is why we need a savior."
i keep the law. its easy. inconvenient maybe, but not difficult. people don't need a saviour. that assumes that humankind is inherently bad. and that in turn assumes that G-d would create people inherently bad. i doubt that.
jesus seems like a nice guy for the most part, he had his heart in the right place anyway.

The "old law" is the laws and reforms of the Pharisees. The "new law" is not laws but guidelines on how to live life.
The main teachings were a return to God's Torah and refusing the "laws" of the Pharisees.
Yes, people knew the "new laws" already because Jesus was teaching from scripture - the Torah and the Prophets. His "new laws" were actually just Torah but explained better than the Pharisees.

When the Pharisees tried to trap Jesus, asking Him what the most important law was, He replied, "love the Lord your God will all your heart, soul and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself; in these two, are all the laws and the prophets fulfilled".
The bible tells us that the law was a schoolmaster to bring us to Christ. No one can keep the law, that is why we need a savior.

the old law being regurgitated to be rechewed anew, does not realy mean a new law. but think of the kosher animal with a four section stomach, that must rechew their partialy digested cud. there is more to the reason for these animals being designated as kosher than you have been mythologicly mislead think. just imagine TheTorah had to be written with such wisdom, that it could be comprehended by, people for all the remainder of all the people for the next about 5000 years left. so that no matter how much technology or societies changed, it could be comprehended by all. if it talked about the space shuttle, people 3000 years ago, would become more confused than anything else. and G-D does not see, tower of babel technology as your salvation, the same as you do. even saying the horse and it's rider shall be lost. shalom!

The old Mosaic laws related to animal sacrifices and the shunning of certain foods. Circumcision was another Mosaic law that was fulfilled by Christ.
Instead of animal sacrifices, Jesus taught that we are to offer ourselves in a contrite and humble spirit before Him as we partake of the Sacrament that He instituted.
The Ten Commandments were never ended--they are commandments, not laws in the same vein, and are still applicable today.
The prophets of old, before the birth of Christ, prophesied much of what changes would occur.

Old Law- the Law of Moses- the Ten Commandments- the laws set forth for the nation of Israel- Covenant between God and Israel- build a nation to glorify God's name and prepare for the coming of Christ- rabbis (teachers) kept the Word of God alive
New Law- Jesus was a rabbi- Jesus swept away old law (including the Ten Commandments, believe it or not)- Jesus fulfilled the prophecies, He was the Messiah promised to the nation of Israel- Jesus is persecuted and executed, rises from his grave- gives directives to build the Church, ascends to heaven in front of 500 people.
Jesus' teachings:
1. Treat other people like you want them to treat you.
2. Put God #1 in your life. This is going to be harder than it sounds, because the world is a tough place, and it changes people, and some people get so caught up in themselves or worldly things that they forget that time is going to run out.
3. God's word wasn't just intended for Jews, but for all nations of the Earth. Spread the word.
4. The world is a rough place, full of seductive pleasures and violence and evil. Time is running out for this world, but thanks to the sacrifice of Jesus, you've got a chance to get on board for the New Milennium.
5. Jesus is coming back, and He's going to sweep the world clean of evil once and for all, and then humanity is going to get to see what God really intended all along for His creation.
