A man and I were playing phone tag and he left me a message to call before a certain time because he was going to a movie with some friends. At this point in our relationship I would not be upset if he were on a date but it did make me wonder because my last boyfriend told me the same thing and years later I found out that he really went with a girl that night on a date.
I guess friends could mean girls and guys but I was curious do men ever go out as a group to movies together? Also I always wondered why would a guy feel the need to tell a lie about who he was going with to the movies if it is clear we're only dating casually, not exclusively?

LOL my boyfriend the one that lied was in the military....
this guy isn't in the military but he is very social, a people person that everyone likes to have around.
Also although I am dating other guys, I guess I've never come right out and told him, so no I would expect that he was dating other girls at this point since we have not talked about being exclusive.

I have only experienced seeing men go to a baseball game together, or to the super bowl. Never have I seen men go to the movies together, unless they have their girl friends or wives with them. I know I'm not a man, but my husband told me this. I hope he is not lying to you. Lies are a terrible thing. Try to find out, with out being so obvious about it. Oh I just thought of something, I have seen military men go to the movies in a group of four or more. Is he in the military?

yeah definitely, but i suppose you should pay attention to the movie they are going to. its not uncommon for guys to go see sci-fi movies or action movies. nothing is better than going to see a bad action movie with a bunch of your friends and sneak in some alcohol. so yeah, its pretty normal.
Guys miight lie about who or where they are going even if you are only dating because they may feel that you are crowding them a bit too much. They might just want some space, but that doesn't mean they don't like you or don't want to date you though.

I've been to the movies ,bars and clubs you name it with my guy friends .Sometimes guys just want to go out and tear up the town.

for myself i prefer the company of ladies to men --- they are more interesting to talk to
he maybe thought you would be upset --- were you going out with other guys??? if no then he may have thought you were more serious and wanted to keep his options open
