Do you have any superglue? Can you wrap the bird up in a hand towel or something big enough to immobilize it long enough to put a dab of superglue on the blood feather?

All you need is enough glue to seal off the wound.. you will have to very gently make the shaft of the feather clean and dry... a gentle wiping of the feather with a q tip and alcohol to remove the film of blood, AVOIDING THE BROKEN TIP OF THE FEATHER... (unless the end is still attached and is bleeding from the middle of the feather withthe end bent and unstable.) .

Then you will have to cut the broken piece off, and hold the wounded feather shut with your fingers--- very dangerous as the bird could be getting very overheated by now..

But if the thing has already broken off, clean the shaft, and drop a small amount of superglue on the most likely place it would bleed from and blow on it so it wont stick to other feathers or his beak if he starts grabbing at it, because they FEEL pain when blood feathers break. keep the bird quiet..

.(I KNOW lorikeets are hard to keep calm), but it can be done; cover the cage with somethign dark...leave it enough uncovered so you can check on it without moving the cover and disturbing it again.. dont let it bathe for at least Five days.

I hope your bird makes it...

if your lorikeet is still bleeding you need to pull the feather out. Because if it is a blood feather it is like a straw and all the blood with come out of it. You can lose your bird if you don't get it stopped. I hope you get it stopped.

Good luck!

This may sound gross, but, have you tried using flour (as in baking ) on the feather end to staunch the flow of blood?
A vet once told me to do this with my Quaker bird.
Good luck.
